Anybody else have Plantar Fascitis?

Pretty much the only shoe I can wear on a regular basis with out the pain. Sierratradingpost.com has some good prices on them and I know they are spendy, but they will last me for 5 years...

I had it bad last year. I don't know everyone says ice your feet but for other medical reasons I can't use ice so I used warm bags of rice. I wrapped them around my feet each night. and I have no problems now. I can go barefoot in the house even. I couldn't even drive in the car because by the time I got to the store I couldn't walk out of the car. Occassionally I have a twinge but I stretch my feet and it goes away. I tried the insoles and pain killers but nothing worked.

Surgery!! I had it so bad, I couldn't even work! My job entails standing for the better part of the day and no way could I do that. After 2 years of p.t. and cortisone shots and all that hooha, I went to an orthopedic surgeon and begged, yes-begged, my dh was a witness to that. I begged the surgeon-I just want my life back! I know it sounds dramatic, but if you've got it, you know what I mean.

So bad, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Every day was the same, get out of bed-scream the minute my feet would touch the ground because they were so tight and that spot on your heel was like a huge pointy rock digging in for dear life. Then I would take a hot shower, soak my feet, stretch and be okay until about 10 a.m. After that, all bets were off, had to walk on the outsides of my feet the rest of the day, got so bad I started to screw up my knees. At night, after watching t.v. with the dh, would literally crawl to bed on my hands and knees.

Surgery, did I say surgery? Surgery, no point in suffering any longer than you have to. Very easy, in and out and you're walking the same day! Surgery.

Didn't read all of the posts so if surgery isn't an option...sorry!!

Also, the best stretch is to stand on the edge of a stair on the ball of your foot. Then shift your weight to your heel-hold on to something!! You know it works when there's a burning sensation in your lower calf, that is stretching the tendon that is over the heel spur. Even though I've had the surgery in both feet, my left was the worst and because I'm still overweight and still stand for long hours, on occasion I can feel it flare up-this stretch works and I'm ready to rock again!!

....lol

Actually my doc mentioned it last time I was there...and I wanted no part of it...but if this doesn't ease up a little I might consider it this winter....my left foot is way worse than my right, too.... not as bad as yours, but I sit on my keister all day.

How hard was the recovery? and how long?

Thanks -

stretch your feet before you get out of bed in the am. Always wear shoes, flip flops.... something with a little cushion.

I buy about a 100 pairs of flip flops in the fall on the clearance rack and have them everywere in the house all year round. This works best for me.

Here's how the condition was explained to me:

The term refers to tightening/inflammation of the muscle on the bottom of your foot. You feel the pain mostly in the foot, but the muscle runs from the ball of your foot over your heel, up your calf, up back of your knee, thighs all the way to your butt. The whole long muscle is tightening and the weakest point is where it attaches to the ball of your foot, so the foot gets the most pain. You need to stretch the whole muscle, not just your foot: reaching and touching your toes, doing "runner's" stretches, lunges etc, etc will do you the most good. Streches, stretches, stretches...every day, especially when you first get up and you'll notice improvement.

I wear orthodics, too, but they were prescribed for a different problem.
