Anybody else having sticker shock on coffee?

Yes! Yesterday I was at the grocery store and saw that the price of both coffee and sugar had gone through the roof. Eggs were $2.69 a dozen. Now that I don't have to pay for eggs

(just feed, pine shavings, oyster shell, etc. lol) I can afford the increase in coffee. Seriously, I make a pot a day and only drink one cup. Hubs usually finishes the pot but now I'm going to start freezing any leftovers in ice trays. The last coffee I bought was from Costco and it was the huge Folgers. The grocery store small container cost the same last night! I bought two bags of whole 8 o'clock beans and vacuum sealed the bags. I think we are going to get hit with huge grocery prices and I plan to stock up on all staples.

I had an idea.....just got back from getting groceries, bought coffee of course, the no-name-brand and it was reg. 5.49 & got 20%off w/store coupon. I normally buy what I have a coupon for or is on sale, most of the time Folgers/Maxwell House. As for adding flavored creamer to my coffee it's 50/50 of the time. So what hit me was after reading all the posts here earlier, seeing the prices of the name brands verses the no name....Why not buy the no name brand and mix it with the name brand...equal parts?? Would definitely improve the taste of the off brand and if ya add creamer......even better? Just my thinking.

I've done the mixing in too...to stretch the "better" coffee

Usually I just buy the cheap stuff, but if the better stuff is on sale, I'll splurge and mix. We go through a LOT of coffee in our household, so I can't rationalize spending that much. If we were one cup a day people, I'd probably buy the better stuff though...

Starbucks here. We can't even stand to drink the cheap stuff now after spoiling ourselves on the good stuff.
I figure I save money on so many other things, if we spend $30 a month on the coffee we make at home with Starbucks brand that's not so bad. Not like we stop and get a $4.00 latte for each of us every morning.

We buy Maxwell House.

People who love me gift me "good" coffee from specialty shops.

I can make a bag of good stuff last a year.

Stepmom is from Nicaragua, thats a good coffee hookup.

DB's ex GF gets me specialty coffees for cmas most times.

Ahhhhhhh.....sitting here sipping my Folgers with French Vanilla Creamer....I never thought I'd love Juan Valdez & his little donkey so much!! lol Had to say it!!

You are very right about the non organic coffee being very bad for you! Not to even mention that brands such as folgers are not buying Fair Trade beans. I dont have enough money to by everything organic and fair trade, but I dont ever waver on coffee, bananas, and soy products because of the horrible amount of pesticides and fertilizers in them otherwise.

Sprinkle a few shakes of the salt shaker in the grounds before you make it, and it won't be so bitter. Learned that years ago in the cafe.

Stock up on peanut butter-because that will go up
300% soon!

Hubby drinks the Folgers 1/2 caf so I'd better get some
of that tomorrow too-

I spend over $800 a month on coffee (creamers and sugar too) for work. We still provide it for free to everyone.... wonder how long this will last!

I've ordered organic online from Cafe Mam and the price was good compared to the store at the time. I liked it a lot better than anything I get here but a person who believes he knows everything about coffee said that they over roasted a little since the oils were too heavy on the outside of the bean. In my opinion his Starbucks has no oil because it is old and dried up.

Kathryn mentioned organic for fruits, there is a list called the dirty dozen by EWG that tells you which fruits to spend the money on organic and which are safer. I thought banana wasn't too bad because you remove the peel.
