anybody familiar with Lt. Sussex???? Want a different answer (lol).

Thanks. I'll give it another couple of months. Maybe somebody will crow and somebody will lay. Wouldn't that be nice.

ive got one light sussex.about30weeks old now,ive been convinced shes a he because her neck feathers are pointy.and her tail started dropping like males feathers.she just looked like a boy even took her back to the farmer, and he agreed she looks like a boy,we thought wed keep her see what happens, well at 30weeks ish she laid her first egg last week,xx

So I have SIX more months to wait before I find out? WOW!!

BTW, I see you have American Bulldogs. So do I. How do yours do with your chickens? We had an "unfortunate incident" with ours so now they have a dog run away from the chickens.

At 4 months old I would say that is a pullet. There would be more definite male features by now if it was a cockerel.

Hi,I went back and looked at pictures of mine at that age and i thought some of mine were females that were males but by looking at the black tail feathers they are a bit long to be female my females had shorter tail feathers . I would post pic but haven't figured it out yet!

think it varies,i was adamant she was a roo.told her she had a couple of weeks to prove me wrong or shes off back haha, and she laid us an egg, quite big onesto to say shes only just started.i have 2 bulldogs yes,i dont let them near them theyd rip them to pieces, they have a seperate run in my garden,xx

Well, thanks everybody. I'd rather have two pullets than have two roos. And, if the "boy" really is a pullet, I don't have to worry about passing the hairy leg gene on to my entire flock.

It's not like I have any choice but to wait and see anyway, because I won't get rid of them without knowing for sure and probably won't either way, sooo....

Yeah, I have three bulldogs and they love the chickens (love to chase and eat them). Love them, they're sweet dogs, but not so good at ignoring anything they think might be food.

Thanks again to all who answered.
