Anybody going to be hatching around March 22?

My gosh, how do you see all that? You must have white eggs. I have trouble with my dark eggs. The lighter ones aren't so difficult but I still only see a large fuzz ball in there. Once in a while I can see one move.

Some straight Cuckoo Marans and a few RIR acouple Buff Orphington, and rest Cuckoo's these all could be crossed with a Black Bantam Frazzle or Cuckoo Marans Roos. We are hoping for hatching 23rd or 24th

I have supplied some eggs from these same hens and pullets to the FFA project hatching out now. Fudgie just posted that some of the Cuckoos have hatched and the duck eggs we gave her are moving

So glad to know as the Cuckoo Marans and the Rouen ducks are new from last summer.

I hope everyone has continued luck with their hatching.

Hi, folks!

Well, I did a 10-day candle with my super fancy retired slide projector candler. I video'd it, but it came out a bit fuzzy. Anway, since there's been so much candling talk on this thread, I thought I'd post the link to the thread with the video link in it.

Hope you are all doing well thus far!

Oh, Pegasuschick - you'd asked how many eggs my bator holds, it's a Brinsea Octagon 20, and it only holds 24 chicken eggs, which is a very good thing for me!

Any other advice for me?? I don't feel like I really know what Im doing, so I don't wanna just chuck them, on the other hand, if one exploded in the incubator I would probably lose it! LOL

I've just been reading these boards for a while and they all just keep talking about exploding eggs. That is the NASTIEST smell (well, broody hen poop is pretty bad too.) I mean, basically you are slowly cooking a rotten egg.

This is considered my "first" but I incubated with my mom and did 4-H poultry from 9-19. I'm 30 now so I had a hiatus, but some smells stay the same!

Ok I think I'll candle again tomorrow night, even though I don't want to...

I feel like taking them out and flopping them around (gently) is doing them more harm than good. Mainly because I don't entirely know what I'm looking at.

Perhaps I'll throw out the ones that I see NOTHING in.

BUT, does anyone know anything about the ones that look half dark to me? I see swimmers in alot, but why does one side look so dark??

I would keep them in the bator. You are going to smell something off (bad tuna) before anything explodes.

You can always candle again in a few days. What day was the first candle? When we were first starting out, we checked at day 10--much easier to see. I doesn't hurt the eggs to be out of the bator for a few minutes now and then.

We do pretty good at day 7-8 now with our slide projector candler, then we look at them before they go into the hatcher at day 18.

We go by the weight of the egg more than anything. It will be weighted to sit in your hand one way more than another by day 18 and it will feel warmer--hard to explain, but that's what it feels like.

Today is day 11 for us... I just hear horror stories about eggs expoding, and I don't smell anything bad, so I don't know what to think. I don't want to throw away perfectly good babies.

I didn't throw anything out until the end of day 7. And it's really obvious who was pressing up against the shell to say HI with their giant eyeball!

I just candled again last night (day 11) and all are still swimming around though many are a LOT more active. The silkie that is left barely even moves, the buff barred cochin is the most active, never stopping.

But I had to have my super duper flashlight. I had a "bright" one but it didn't get through the shell as well as the other flashlight that has warnings about eye damage on it!
