Anybody have a Greywater and/or Rainwater Recycling System?

If so I would love to hear about it. How hard was it to build and do you water your garden with it?

I don't know if this counts... it's not very specialized.. but I am running a gutter down one side of my coop into a water barrel (a reclaimed plastic water tank from a house water filter - about 50gal) and then running a pipe into a water trough in my chicken run... It'll be really helpful since I don't have running water near my coop!!

Here's a pic of ours.

It was put together by my husband from recycled water barrels used at a company his co-worker's dad works for. It utilizes runoff from our roof. He installed a spigot down at the bottom of the outer barrel, and since our property is on a slight incline here, we can take the hose down to the garden and water that way, although flow is slow. We usually just fill up some buckets and watering cans and wagon them down to the garden that way.

I wish I could... but we only get a few inches a year. My dad's greywater goes straight into the back yard garden, which is illegal and not up to code, but he was able to sneek it past inspection.

I use the laundry waste water for the annuals, just put the watering can in the tub to catch as it drains. Now we have 2 water barrels, but I have NO idea how to install a spout on the bottom. I gotta figure that one out!

I just got two rain barrels and want to get maybe three more. We have well water and I don't want to use it to water the garden -- neighbors have gone dry in the summer, and I have a big garden. I was suprised at how quickly two 50 gallon barrels filled up -- just one short heavy shower.

I thought about using graywater, but since our well and septic basically drain into the same ground (150 feet apart) I figure I already AM using graywater....

I had some plans someplace that showed how to build a marsh out of barrels cut in half the long way, receive the grey water and process it so that it is safe to use,,,a very nice settup but looked like is was pretty hard to build (

more than 4 pieces and youve got me stumped). There are people who call themselves the greywater guerillas that convert grey water to this system,,,,,and claim that it can be a big help in solving the water crisis. It appears to be sound,,,,I will try to find the link
