Anybody having hard time selling chicks?

Wow, I have sold out 10 chicks I just hatched out without trying to, people are asking me for more! Weird, I am not that far from you. If you PM me your phone # and stuff, i will direct them to you! A lot of them ended up ordering already, but I will let them know about you!

How much do you want for them now that they are older?

gosh.....here, people are thrilled to find a chicken for sale. They call and say "Are you ACTUALLY selling chicks?" Not many around for sale, especially anything older than the little bitty ones at the feed store. If you can keep them till they are 1 or 2 months, you can sell them really quick.

I am in Ohio and I have been to a few poultry auctions. You really can get 1 yr old layers for under $5 each. I don't pay attention to people who ask $10 or more for laying hens unless the birds are exceptional or something I really want. Hard to get that much for a chicken in this part of the country. Location seems to have a lot to do with it.

I posted 7 EE cockerels (1 week old) on CL and sold all of them within 10 minutes. My incubators are full, and I still have people calling for them. I'm selling mixed chicks at the moment, but I am working on breeding pens. I'll eventually have RIR, White Leghorn (maybe), silkies, Old English bantams, EE's, polish, and cochins. I also have mallard ducklings that I can sell for $1 less than TSC (they sell theirs for $4.50 here, I sell for $3.50) and I have one order for 12, and another for 30! The 30 one isn't due for another three months though.

Hatcheries are selling out early this year, and chicks will probably go for a premium as soon as TSC runs out here.

At $3 each mine all sell with in a week of hatching. 20 to 30 a week with little advertising. I saw a girl at the flea market sell out of 50+ chicks in ten minutes at $3 each. Don't know what breed they were.

They are just doing what you did last year buying and selling now the market is flooded. We have non-hatchery birds and show ours local and at state, have the coop keeping us so busy we do not have any extras to sell on the side. So in here there is not a surplus. One thing you might consider if they are some good looking birds in your group and you have kids is show them in 4-h then sell them at the local shows then you don't have to eat them. If you don't have kids call the 4-h director and ask them if they have children looking for birds.

exactly, you get what you pay for.
I prefer quality and prefer to know a little about where my birds come from.

Not to mention bringing home who knows what disease or parasites or both! I'm afraid to even ATTEND an auction, never mind buy poultry at one...
