anybody raise sprouts to feed the chickens?

Really,
lets say 1 cup buckwheat groats to 1/4 cup ACV plus water about 3cups. ????
The buckwheat does not swell up big, just a fraction.

Does that sound right about the ingredient measurements ???
Thanks.
Yes, I would ferment 3-5 times the amount you feed out daily, b/c it will take a few days to start to ferment well, then you could feed out your measured amount and still have plenty of fermented grain/water left in the bucket to just add more new grain (and water when needed) and stir in You won't need to add anything extra like acv to the already fermented base, just treat it like sourdough and add new what you use.

Are seed sprouts that much better than just the seed? You would think the seed has all the nutrition already in it. How much better are sprouts vs seed?

I am very new to chickens, (3 days), I am loving spending time with them and reading all of the great info on this site. I thought I would share what I have discovered, I feed my wild birds sunflower seeds, I have 13 feeders, and I never thought about it before but there is always tons of sprouts under the feeders,so.... I went out and picked a bunch of those sprouts and fed them to my girls and they loved them. I guess that is like recycling! :)

Just read this whole thread tonight.

I'm thinking that I will be doing some serious sprouting around here. Fermented grains for breakfast, with dry cat food mixed in. Fodder for lunch and sprouts for dinner. I quit buying commercial feed a couple months ago now and I know they need more than just the fermented feed. I've been mixing sprouts in with the ff and tossing them some fodder "bricks" on occasion.

I think I will probably be incorporating Kassaundra's burlap sack method. I have more than enough to keep me busy and if I don't have to rinse lots of sprouting grains, that would be very helpful to me.

Are fermented grains better than sprouted? Thanks
If you are using whole grains when you ferment the grains will sprout while you are fermenting them. The trick is how sprouted do you want them. I use a large quart size jar and put two tables spoons of seeds (varied seeds a bunch of different ones) in the bottom and soak them the first day and then I will let them grow for up to a week after that to get good and long before I feed them. I have heard that sprouting the grains will increase the vitamins and minerals in the grains. And the chickens seem to love them.
