anybody raise sprouts to feed the chickens?

Okay, they've been in the bags and jar for about 16 hours, and I don't need to be knocked in the head to know that this ain'ta gonna work. I made too much. They almost doubled in size overnight, and they ain'ta gonna get any smaller. I need trays like the directions said to use... See 3riverschick's direction on reply #111. "When everything else fail, including you, read the directions."
I'm going to dump everything from the bags and jars into the bottom of the five-gallon bucket, rinse and drain occasionally, and when they have just sprouted maybe half an inch I'll pour some kefir (chickens love kefir) over them to get the chickens started eating oats.

Meanwhile, I'll build some kind of TRAY setup for sprouting about a half pound of oats at a time. That 50# bag's agonna last a LONG time. I only have seven bbs Orpinton hens, two roosters, six chicks, and six silkies. I'll probably have to thow some of this first batch away because it might spoil before they've eaten it.

Maybe after sprouting that you can freeze them in daily sized portions and feed frozen? I don't know, but others may have thoughts on this. Everything freezes here in an hour anyway and my chickens still eat it

OK, well, they do like yogurt, so tomorrow I will try the sprouted lentils with the yogurt. It's worse than my kids!!! I used to force my children to eat certain things but now I am GROWING special stuff for chickens. I must be mad. They should eat these sprouts. They are actually quite good.

Hmmm, I thought that I was raising CHICKENS, not hogs.
I took out the large bowl of the Pyrex set of bowls full of the barely sprouted oats, about a half gallon of them, and about a quart of kefir.
They wolfed it ALL down in no time flat.
I'll take them (eight bbs Orpingtons) twice as much tomorrow because I need to get rid of all sprouts before I leave for Florida Wednesday. I'll be starting some more when I return after New Years.

I sprouted about a cup of oats for 3 days. It hardly seemed worth it because they also wolfed it minutes. Now I know that humans didn't sprout for the dinosaurs so where did this addiction get into the chicken line?

Off to sprout a larger batch of oats - and maybe some wheat, rye and barley too!

Well I figured out why MY lentils weren't sprouting.. I accidently picked up a bag of split peas instead of green lentils and didnt even read the bag until a week later when my "green UNsprouted lentils" had a really funky smell....
