anybody remember snow blizzard of 1993 here in the south

At that time we lived at the end of a steep, curving cement driveway. It had an inch of ice for days! There was no coming or going in a vehicle. It was more of an ice storm in our area.

Yep - remember that year VERY well! Closed the gov't down, 18 hours in traffic, daughter was 3 and she couldnt even go outside to play in it

. That was a horrible storm.

and why is it bread, milk, and toilet paper are always the staples that we must have when it snows hmm? I can understand the TP....obvious reasons

....but I've always wondered that...Had I known then how to make bread - we'd of been set ROFL!

Here if it even snows a little, like a dusting, heck it doesnt even HAVE to snow - they just MENTION snow and its like freaking chickens on a watermelon - people flock to the stores and hit the bread, milk and TP section! LMAO!! GONE in 60 seconds!

:(Remember we had two ice storms in a years time. All the big trees are broken or even gone. My husband works for the local electric company. He worked 21 days of 14 hrs a day to restore power. At home I had 50 cows to feed by myself. A generator to fill with gas. But I was warm and well fed. We don't take electric for granted around here. We have a generator large enough to run the well and the house. We live in the middle of 150 acres. We drive 4wheel drive vehicles. Not complaining but not looking forward to the next couple of days. Good thing. My hens have just started laying. In the cold hen house with a heat lamp. Couldn't believe that I am getting eggs. The high yesterday here in SW Missouri was 19. Today we are expecting a high of 29. Oh

so looking forward to spring.

I remember it vividly. My first child was a week old. Power went out, worried about keeping her warm. Was thankful each time I steam rolling up off her butt as I changed those diapers, since that meant she was toasty warm. I was also VERY thankful I had decided to breast feed, since I had warm milk on tap. Otherwise I'd have been a real basket case!

Didn't want to go to a shelter with my newborn, since the flu was also making the rounds then.

After 3 days, we finally made it to an open hotel.... and they had a fire alarm that night. I was racing down the stairs in my pajamas & robe with my baby in a car carrier (her dad worked nights back then). I was scared to death. Stood in the cold for 15 minutes to find out it was a false alarm. EVERYONE outside made sure my baby and I were first ones on an elevator back to our room. I was so touched!!

I remember it all too well

I lost 2 cows, my barn and a ton of chickens in my commercial grower houses that I had then. Tons of trees down and the cleanup was insane! It was real bad! Power was out for 2 weeks!

Don't want to go through that again!

I remember that snowstorm very well. We got 3" in Mobile! That's the most we have gotten in my lifetime. Of course, we have only had snow about 4 times in my lifetime. The record for Mobile was Valentine's Day back in 1895 with 6".
We had a pet skunk at the time, and she loved the snow. She had the best time running around and digging in it! Someday, hopefully many, many years from now, when I don't have so many dogs, I want another skunk

I remember when I was a kid driving the snowmobile with my dad to the general store here. Its part of their house so they are always open. We have no where near the snow now we used to have but this winter is supposed to be bad. A couple years ago i lived in a town with old wires and the power would go off all the time, I bought a Little Buddy Heater that takes those little propane cylinders, its enough to heat one room of the house if I have to. I stock things like tuna, spam, canned veggies, crackers. Last winter the power went out for 2 days and I took my garbage can out packed snow in the bottom, put the food in and put it in my garage. Worked good. Its all about being prepared and not having to go anywhere.
