Of the 25 that made it to lockdown 25 have hatched :yesss:
Been a very drawn out affair this time for some reason. They have been hatching days 20 - 21 and the final 3 today day 22.

Congrats on the awesome hatch! How do you like the brinsea heat lamp? Do you need to keep a bulb too or does that take the place of it?

Trust me, the first batch is truly a learning experience!! I had one that I rushed too. He didn't make it and after I kept repeating Sally Sunshines words too! I'm trying to let my kids understand that they will die. It's part of having chickens. But, exactly like you said, not because I rushed the whole process! And I'm waiting for more eggs to arrive also, starting a new batch. It is very addicting! I wanted to ask, did you do the float test on the remaining eggs, first? And hows' that one little guy doing that you helped his head out?

Yes, I did the float test on all that didn't hatch. All but one passed the test. As for the one I assisted, he never moved at any time (before, or after assisting). None had internal pips even, but they clearly hadn't dehydrated in the egg or they wouldn't have passed the float test. Ergo, they died some time during the lockdown period (I'm guessing), probably due to me having them upside-down while in the turner, and me totally ignoring the word "lockdown"! I've disposed of everything now and the bator is soaking atm. I have collected 8 eggs towards my next hatch, and am writing the date and weight on each one. My next hatch is going to be so data rich Tyson's will be asking me questions...

My hatch is almost complete!

I set 26 eggs, pulled 2 the first week (one clear one early quitter). 24 eggs went into lockdown, so far I have 21 chicks, 1 pip, 1 doing nothing as of yet, and 1 that piped and died.

Not bad if I do say so myself lol. Im pretty happy!

On what day are you going to start the new batch? I have eggs in route from Georgia to New York, as we speak. Most likely setting Wednesday morning or Thursday morning of this week. I'm so looking forward to this batch, now that I've got one under my belt and can really start fine tuning now!

Okay I have one out and about five more trying. All still the wrong way. I started to assist one and got a blood spot on the outer membrane. Stopped the bleeding immediately with a qtip still heard it chirping away in there so I put it back in the bator.

I'm probably starting on the weekend. I started keeping my darkest brown eggs on Saturday and I don't want to use any that are more than 9 days old. I usually get 12 or so eggs a day, of which half are the color and size I'm looking for (I'm keeping between 49g and 63g). GL with your next batch!

Wait till morning before doing anything more...then check for chirping again, if they're still chirping they have a chance still to get out by themselves.

Waiting till morning will be so nerve wracking! But probably the exact right thing to do! I'm just really anxious because I lost two of my baby goats over the weekend and a litter of bunnies :'(
