It appears that all of Daisy's eggs are dead. She has been on and off her nest, changing boxes (I keep putting her back in the right one, but the eggs get cold). I will leave them for a little while to make sure, though. I can't wait to see you guy's chicks though!! And I will candle to see my chicks in the incubator either Wednesday or Thursday night, probably Thursday. On a better note, the GLW's eggs all look good. They are definitely fertile, but not quite as far along as I thought earlier in the day. I can see a lot more in the dark!!

Holy WOW !!! I went out and bought a 9 led egg candling flash light and I just candled the one egg I have in my Ghetto-Bator and I saw the little guy moving around

that has to be one of the coolest things I have ever seen. This is also good because it means that so far my DIY incubator is doing its job, I really hope this works out I cant wait this is so much fun!!!

Hello!
I'm late joining, I hope you don't mind. I set my 24 shipped eggs in the incubator on Tuesday March 27th. I started a thread with all of my info on it, but basically I am new to everything to do with chickens!
I have 12 BO, 6 PBR and 6 NH in the incubator. I candled this evening (day 6.5) and got my very first glimpse of adorable, little embryos dancing around in their eggs!!!

My current counts are 12 eggs with moving embryos and good air cells, 6 eggs with questionable viability for a variety of reasons and 6 that appear to be 'clear'. I have read quite often to give the eggs until day 10 before culling, but I did move the 6 clear eggs off to the outside of the incubator. My thought was to place them as far away from the good ones as possible, just in case.

The only real issue I am having at the moment is that one of my eggs with a moving embryo is "upside down". The embryo is growing in the large end of the egg quite as happy as can be and the air cell is off to the side of the small end.
My inclination would be to turn the egg over (small end up) and hope that the chick will pip upwards instead of towards the large end of the egg. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Mebberry4 Thats so cool, little dancing embryos those are exactly the words I was looking for. I think my heart skipped a beat when I saw my little one today lol. I hope they all work out for you, I'm not sure about the upside down one? Maybe just let it be and hope nature works it out I have no experience either so your guess is as good as mine.

That's sad, I'm sorry Daisy's eggs are dead. Maybe she'll get the hang of it on another try sometime? But yay for your incubator eggs!

This is a good thread for help with mal-positioned air cells: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...t-of-damaged-and-mal-positioned-egg-air-cells

I set mine on the 24th having a heck of the time with humidity droping to 25 then back to 45 . I candled and can see them moving. I hope the humidity works out it is driving me nuts.

I am hatching these for a friends farm that we are sharing the birds but leaving them at her place since I cant have chickens at mine. I have a few banty eggs in there and standard they are all mixed breeds so should be interesting to see how they turn out.

I am a total sap and I actually teared up when I saw the first few. I was initially in awe and speechless, then I found my voice and started frantically calling for my DF to come see! lol

Thanks for the well wishes. Good luck with your little one and with future hatches!

Good luck meberry!! I was in awe the first time that I saw too!! I can wait to check out my incubator eggs! I can only hope that those are doing better than poor Daisy's eggs. Quick question for you more experienced people: If, after a few more days, there isn't any change in Daisy's eggs, should I take them away, and start a new batch under her? Maybe in a cage, so that she can jump boxes? What do you guys think?
