anybody using a brower round metal bator?

I got one of these off Freecycle last night. It's about the size of a car tire and the person who used it before me had used it upside down. Fired it up, it burned off some dust, but got up to 96F right away. I turned the thermostat up, to see what would come of it. I have a small tray of water under the perforated egg shelf. I'll pop a hygrometer in there tonight to see how it does. The window in the top is cloudy, so can't see anything. Looks like someone tried to wash it with something harsh.

I think I'll have to try the egg carton method with this beast. I can't think of a way to keep the eggs from rolling around on the metal otherwise.

I don't have the metal version, but a nwer plastic one. I love it, though!

Spooky, I'm not using mine anymore since I built my big cabinet bator, but I did get a couple of great hatches from mine. Mine held stable temps, way better than any styrobator. The only thing that I observed is that the metal ones are vented really well and tend to run on the dry side as far as keeping humidity up. A couple extra sponges cured that though. Once you get yours stable, you will be pleased, other than the hand turning, and you certainly got yours for the right price. As far as the clouded window, that one seems like a sure cantidate for a digital thermometer with the probe inserted into a water wiggler. I will never part with mine and will keep it as an emergency backup. Good luck with your hatches.

You might try some Plastic polish (from the auto parts store) for cleaning the cloudy top cover of the incubator. It works on my headlight covers on my vehicle and I've used it on my cellphone screen, too.

My mother had one of these and she swore by it. Best incubator she ever had she tells me.

I bought one from a BYC member here and am waiting for it to arrive.

Has anyone had issues with the eggs tumbling around in the new (plastic) Brower top hatch? Every so often I hear a soft "clunk" on my wooden test eggs, and I am a little worried about the real ones about to enter The Chamber.

Also ~

* is the light supposed to blink constantly when it reaches temp? Yikes.
* anyone had problems with chicks coming into contact with the light? The cover is pretty high, but I just want to be sure.
* anyone have problems with a water weasel getting stuck in rotation tray?
*anyone notice extreme temp differences in different parts of this bator?

i have one, it is very old and it does varry temps alot but that might be my owne fault. you shoud do good with that incubator!
