Anybody using wild grass in the coop?

It's the time of year in which I need to do some substantial yard maintenance. I live in the Northern California mountains and have a lot of that wild dry yellow grass that needs to be cut back. I'm thinking this will make excellent bedding/litter material around the Duck coop and run, I'm just not sure about it getting wet...
Does anybody use their yard waste in the duck run or should I limit it to the nest specifically? Any thoughts on this idea would be appreciated!

I buy bales of mixed grass hay. It does mildew pretty quickly but it's cheap and they love it when it's fresh. You should give your grass a try, just keep an eye on the mildew.
