Anyone breed rare breeds???

Several folks on here breed Chanteclers these days - there is a breed thread on here. I think they're making a comeback like the Buckeye has. I hope the Dominique is next in line!

I'm working on a sultan and a sumatra project. I only have hatchery stock at the moment, but I figure it's a good start.

i didn't know so many chickens were rare, and i see them all the time... well, i have shamo, and some that i think are more malay than shamo... i'm going to use them for a shamo BLR project... but i'll keep them pure as well...

We are initiating a breeding program for the Spanish (white faced black Spanish). It took us a year to get our hands on enough chickens for our project, but we've finally got them. One of the reason I chose that particular breed is *because* it's on that critical list. They are one of the oldest breeds and believed by many to be the first breed brought to the Americas by Spanish explorers, as they are naturally prolific layers and would provide eggs to feed the groups of sailors/explorers. They are largely ignored as a breed because some tend to be flighty or loud, but I am finding them to be sweet and personable, though even the chicks are LOUD.

I do.
