Anyone come across this?

Honestly I'm new to this he was a cross between a RIR roo and white leghorn hen.
That’s one of the original “recipes“ for making red sex links. This means that the chicks will be a different color at hatch so you can tell the genders apart right away.
Different breeds are used to make them, they are very popular because the hens are excellent egg layers.😊

Here is a photo from the internet of the exact cross showing two males and one female (in the back). 😊

It’s my understanding that the white would dominate if mama hen is white and chick is male, since moms pass coloring on to the males, which is why the Roos are white & hen is brown, is that correct?

Basically yes, but not quite, only works with certain breeds and combination of breeds. 😊

I don't think it always applies as there was a hen(see earlier in the replies) that was a hen and she was nearly entirely white with a single black spot and one black tail feather.
You are correct. This is why it is not recommmended to use white legorns for red sexlinks, though they were used originally. That is why I said "original". The dominant white genetics confuses things. Now most hatcheries use rhode island whites or white rocks as the white parent. 😊

Dominant white is used to create many hatchery hybrids such as Austrawhites, and as others have noted to create Paint silkies.😊

I honestly am not in it myself so to speak for the designer aspect. I like the difference in birds so I have an array of breeds and am naturally curious to what every combo creates. I added "ameraucana", SLW, GLW and sapphire gems to the flock. Along with my RIR, white leghorns and isa browns so im super stoked to see the new combos. OH! To add to it out of my new younger birds I discovered that I'm 95% certain one of my GLW is a cockerel. So now im gonna have all sorts of combinations😁

It will be fun to see how they all turn out! 😊
