Anyone do Stained Glass?

What a great idea for the small pieces of glass! I bet they looked great on the tree too. Or did you use them as sun catchers?

I use my scrap to make backboards for behind sinks and the top of coat racks. I just embed them in grout and apply several coats of wax over them.

That is beautiful!! Gives me ideas hmmmmm....lol

They are so easy as I don't even have to grind the glass smooth as it gets imbedded into the grout. It is cabinet grade plywood on the back with a molding added around the edge to contain the pieces. The inexpensive plywood will warp and make a mess of your work.

Vert - so you are actually making mosaic with the stained glass? Good idea. hmmm I actually like the process of the pattern, outlining the pieces, cutting them, grinding them down to their size, foiling them, making sure everything fits ( they usually don't and I have to grind them accordingly) ACK but after soldering everything together and seeing it against the light in the background --Ah! the colors look good and I'm good to go. It is very satisfying... It's fun and crafty I'd recommend it to anyone.

It's also good for anyone that needs to get things off their mind. In other words, it keeps you busy with each step and you can't think about the other crud that might try to occupy your thoughts. Good therapy.

Lunachick, I only do mosaic work from scrap pieces. Those left overs in the boxes behind the bench drove me nuts and there are only so many suncatchers that I feel like making.

I was looking on line last night for something and actually found per cut out and ground glass pieces for a pattern. I never knew there was such a thing. Sort of sounds like it took a lot of the craft out of stained glassing, but it might be a nice way for someone that has never done it to try it without having to buy all the equipment right off the bat.

My sister does stained glass, her 2nd piece was an elephant family for my son's room. It was the size of a reg window (bottom or top half take your pic) it is gorgous. I will have to take pics next time I have the camera charged and post a pic. She keeps wanting me to learn but man I don't think I can afford another hobby. LOL

Nice work everyone

Sorry to bring back an old thread but I just saw this and wanted to post my pics.

This turtle is in my bathroom door and I tell you it was a stinker to finish. Ever have a project that should be easy but just fights you every step of the way?

I was looking for a knight for another project and came across this guy and fell in love with him. It took a little bit to take that painting and turn it into a pattern that I could use for glass but this to date is my favorite.

OMG that's beautiful! The only thing I don't do when I do stained glass is the silver finish on the edges... I like to stain them with the black patina for solder - it makes everything look older and antiqued. Which i prefer, but that's looks nice peewee, excellent.

How did you do those small details, like the crosses on his crest?
