Anyone doing or done the Atkins Diet?

I tried Atkins, twice. It was the easiest diet for me, once I got past my cravings for sweets, because with all the protein I truly didn't feel hungry - ever. My problem with Atkins was that after a while I started having very bad kidney pain. I don't think my kidneys are able to handle that much protein. Needless to say, after going off Atkins I gained all my weight back, plus some.

I'm currently reading the updated South Beach book and am going to give this diet (no, not diet, LIFESTYLE CHANGE!) a try after I've read the whole thing. It is similar to Atkins but it doesn't look like it's going to overload my system with so much protein, and it stresses eating lean proteins such as fish and boneless/skinless chicken.

To answer the OP's question though, I ate lots of eggs for breakfast while on Atkins. Eggs & sausage, eggs & bacon, eggs & cheese, eggs & sausage & cheese... you get the picture. I got very, very tired of eggs!

* I have done Atkins, one time very hard core for several mths. It's harder to do than you may think, esp. if you eat out often (as we tend to). Sugars are hidden everywhere!!! At Denny's once, I had to return 2 orders of green beans, because the liquid they were in was FULL of sugar. Had never even tasted it there before Atkins.

... you can do almost anything with an egg!

Has anyone seen this site? I had no idea that candida build up can cause so many health problems.

My parents just bought The Makers Diet book
http://www.makersdiet.com/publicsite/funnel/index.aspx
and his new book Perfect Weight America. I caught a portion of one of his programs on TV and it showed an Organic Poultry & Beef Farmer http://www.coyotecreekfarm.org/ that cured himself from cancer by eating Bible Foods.

I don't eat a lot of food. I've had 5 children in the span of 7 yrs and even though that doesn't give me an excuse, it sure adds a lot of weight that shouldn't be there

. I RARELY eat sweets, I'm more of a green beans, corn, peas, potatoes type of gal. I love salads! Meat....I could eat it or leave it.

Walking 3 miles......have you tried to walk 10 minutes with 3 small children?? LOL by the time I get 2 minutes in, I just want to walk back inside without tripping over someone. And no, I don't have someone to watch the kids while I exercise. I either do it while they are here, or wait until 10 or 11 at night. And pills, never even THOUGHT about taking one to lose weight. I've cut down on what I've ate, I've exercised (inside with "help" of course), nothing has worked thus far.

I KNOW Atkins works and if I can jump start losing weight and learn to avoid some of the stuff I used to eat to better myself, then I don't see the problem. I'm not putting anything toxic in my body, no added chemicals or dyes, just cutting back on a few foods. And hey, I could be one of those that keeps the weight off afterwards. I'll let you know

and keep your fingers crossed for me

Definitely takes will power. I had to help DH along when he did this 2 yrs ago. After the first 2 weeks he was okay. This time around, I've read the book, I've done my research online, I'm better prepared and know what we can and can't have. He lived on meat and cheese last time and I knew that wasn't healthy but he insisted he had to lose weight. He did, he kept it off until just lately.

I'm sure I'm addicted to the caffeine in it, it's a hard habit to break

I don't have the strips yet but I have to go out tomorrow and I plan on picking some up.

Yeah, I don't think I can drink these things long, they're WAY TOO SWEET for me. I don't like tea

. I can tolerate water as long as it is ICE cold and doesn't taste or smell funny.

Chicken is my meat of choice. I could eat it all day every day

. I don't eat a lot of beef or pork, and only minute amts of fish (I don't like a fishy taste).

Yeah, I don't like eggs all that much anyway so I've gotta find something else to eat

Well I am in the same boat however looks at some pics when I was at what doc call my ideal weight looked like a crack w...e. I have gotten to the point in my life that I will not fight my weight. I do need to become more active....like 2 young kids all the animals and the work around here isn't enough.

I will caution you that during my last pregnancy I had gestational diabetes and had to check BS 6 times a day and use keto stick every morning. Doctors were very very serious about not getting into the red zone as it can cause serious problems. Well I asked the doctor if Parkinson's could possibly be caused by Atkins. No family history and now grandmother how has been on and off Atkins for the last 15-20 years has advanced canme on quickly. That was about 2 years ago recently found out that OU medical is considering a study to see if this may not necessarily cause Park. but intenifsy it.

If you can get through this first 2 weeks you will open up a whole new world for your tastebuds.

I found that broiled, baked, grilled, sauteed etc etc chicken and a raw spinach kitchen sink type salad could be your savior when you are craving something.

I kept a giant ziplock bag in my fridge (they are 2.5 gallon size now) full of salad. I would make a giant salad with a wide variety of the lowest carb veggies to be found. Spinch and romanine lettuce mixed for the greens with veggies that packed a punch in taste - green onion, a roasted clove of garlic, grated green cabbage, green bell pepper, cucumber, heart of palm, asparagus, radishes, celery, button mushrooms, bean sprouts, etc. The chicken I served on the side or shredded over the top with a bit of cheese and lemon and olive oil for dressing. A large salad like this and I was full and still not eating but barely 10g of carbs.

Something like this twice a day and you are getting such a wide variety of vitamins and minerals that the cravings go away and you won't feel like you are hungry. Walking. Drinking at least 8 full glasses of water and you won't ever be hungry.

I understand hating the water. You can add some sliced lemon or lime to help flavor it and get it down. This will help you in a big way of the next 2 weeks to flush your body of its toxins too.

If you just get past the first part you can eat well, drink enough water, and the issue of eating ceases to exist.
