Anyone doing or done the Atkins Diet?

You might want to take a look at South Beach because it does seem to offer more variety with food. I remember a lot of veggies being off limits with the first phase of Atkins but you can eat almost all veggies with the first phase of South Beach. The book I have is called South Beach Supercharged, or something like that, and I found it at WalMart.

Best wishes to you!

I've walked over three miles a day, five days a week, for 30 years now, through two pregnancies, infants, small children, large children, divorce, working fulltime at a job I had a long commute to - I get up early in the morning before the household gets up (before my now x-hubby went to work) to get my walk in. It all depends on how important it is to you, I guess, and my morning walk is very important to me, especially my mental health - if I have to miss my walk I feel it for the rest of the day.

And of course I don't think you're mean or rude, I hope you don't think I'm harping on you, we're all different and look at things from different angles, sometimes another angle opens up when we have conversations like this

After reading this thread I am surprised that no one has mentioned the Fat Smash Diet by Dr. Ian Smith (the one from Celebrity Fit Club on VH1). I bought his book at Wal Mart for $8.00 and lost 26 lbs in 2 1/2 months. The diet doesn't restrict any food groups (except for the detox phase which is the first 9 days) and I was never hungry on this plan. I don't like to call it a diet but more of a plan to better eating. It is similar to the South Beach Diet, but it was easier for my lifestyle. At the end of the 90 day program you are not restricted from any foods, even deserts. This program teaches you how to eat healthier and was very easy to follow.

There are three phases to the plan and it does not require any special proprietary meals. Everything you need you can get any store. There are recipes included in the book and I have found tons more on the internet. The first phase is the hardest because it is the detox phase and lasts for nine days (in which I lost 9 lbs on). After that it is much easier. Then you are introduced to more foods in each of the other phases. I LOVE to eat and I was never hungry on this diet...er Plan. In addition to the 3 meals per day you NEED to eat the snacks between meals. This plan has really boosted my metabolism and I have been able to maintain my ideal weight almost a year later.

As others have said there is no magic pill and I agree with those who said excluding entire food groups is not a good thing. In my opinion this has been the easiest and most healthy thing I have done for my family.

If anyone wants to try this PLAN and wants some of the recipes let me know and I can email them to you. The chili one is awesome.

I was on Adkins and lost 50 pounds. One thing I missed in the beginning was pasta that was real pasta not soy. (I hate soy!) I found the ansewer in Dreamfields Pasta! Their pasta is real pasta, made with semolina flour. The process that they use to make the pasta prevents your body from absorbing most of the carbs. It does work.

One of my favorite quick recipes is one serving of Dreamfields Penne cooked until almost done. I add defrosted (previously frozen) broccoli to the pasta and cook both until done. Drain the pasta and broccoli well and then add several large spoonfuls of Ragu Alfredo sauce right from the jar. The heat from the hot pasta and broccoli will heat the sauce. Yum!

Dreamfields pasta IS good. Just be careful with portions, otherwise you may as well eat the regular stuff. Hubby comes from a very Italian/Brooklyn background and even he likes that pasta.

Dreamfields is a great pasta. The grocery here stopped carrying it so I usually order a wide variety from nettrition and keep in the pantry as a staple.

I lost 67 lbs on Atkins. I love that way of eating! MP is right, the first 2 weeks of detox is rough. I quite smoking and that was easier than getting off sugar! (15 yrs now) but after that, its so much easier! no food cravings. At times I forgot to eat. FORGOT TO EAT!! when was the last time that has happened? believe me I have never forgotten to eat before, it was first and foremost on my mind at all times. I am now a healthy weight, exercise 4 days a week and am in better shape than some half my age. And yes when you go off this diet you will gain it all back. but when you "go off" ANY DIET you will gain it all back. if you go back to the way that made you fat in the first place duh. One thing I do while on this diet is make leftovers!! lots and lots of leftover meat items. that way when you think you need something there is a yummy chicken breast ready to chop up over your romaine lettuce. caesar salad dressing has the least carbs. always have something on hand to eat. the problem with this diet it requires a lot of cooking. eliminate as much as you can by cooking lots when you do cook. in the beginning don't let yourself become deprived, EAT! keep us posted!

Today is day 9 and I feel better now than I've felt in a LONG time! It was rough on days 2, 3, 4, & 5 but I had lots of energy Friday and did 7 loads of laundry and still had energy to do the other stuff I normally do. I had NO energy before. I did eat some cake and ice cream at my little girl's bday party over the weekend but I kept all the weight off I've lost so far!! I forgot to weigh in this morning but I have lost 8 lbs as of yesterday morning! And believe it or not, it's coming off my stomach! Yeah!

I had planned on starting to exercise this week, didn't yesterday but I might today. I used to do pilates and loved the results in 3 wks so maybe it will take less time now....? It's amazing how far 2 Tbsp of dressing will go on a salad

. I'm still looking for breakfast ideas other than eggs...... I found a muffin recipe but haven't actually tried it yet.

I tried taking vitamin B12 before this and lost about 2 lbs. Wasn't sure it was 100% safe so I stopped. Any idea if it is okay to take? I know people get that shot but I'm not talking about that, just normal vitamin B12......

I need to look when I go back out. Mine is Hidden Valley Ranch and has 1 carb per Tbsp. I figured Italian would have less, not so.
