Anyone else diagnosed with PCOS?

I have PCOS and hypo-thyroidism. I take a daily synthetic thyroid hormone and birth control pills to regulate those hormones too. After 9 months of everything I'm doing much better than before.

Has your Dr put you on Metformin for the Insulin resistance? Or mentioned it?

Yes they want to put me on Metformin and Clomid. But my husband was on a drug that made him temporarily sterile so we opted to wait to go on any thing other than the Spironolactone until we feel that Hubby's count will be back to normal. We have a standing appt. to get a sample tested. I think my next step will be to get a good sample from Hubs and then I'll go on Metformin. Idk about the Clomid....

I am hoping that the Metformin helps me body be more accepting of the insulin

Jamie.. if you are wanting another little one, i would go with the metformin and the clomid combo....
It seems to work well for PCOS'ers.....
There is also another drug instead of metformin that works,.. i think it begins with an F....

We are both wanting another one (or two), and my Dr. wants to put me on Metformin and Clomid, but I have to see what the costs are first. My insurance doesn't cover infertility, and everything that we've done so far (except paying for the one test on my husband) they have paid because thus far its just been diagnosis and light treatment of hormone imbalance. But once I go on something that could assist us in getting pregnant my insurance will then reject any further treatment costs. They'll only pick back up on coverage once I am pregnant. LOL

Idk if Metformin without the Clomid would be covered. Honestly if I can regulate the insulin and, therefore, get the other hormones in line, I would definately prefer achieving pregnancy wtihout forced ovulation. I do know that I ovulate, one of my issues is I ovulate very late in my cycle so the egg doens't have much time to be fertilized before the end of my cycle flushes everything out.

I believe that clomid is cheap even without insurance(metformin also..)... Call your local pharmacy and ask them how much clomid is withOUT insurance... they'll tell you.
and the metformin they SHOULD pay for because of the PCOS.. you need to regulate your insulin...
Its all in how your doc sends the info into the ins company.... tell him to put that the metformin is JUST for your PCOS... NOT infertility....

I have dealt with PCOS and all its unpleasantness for over 20 years. I take maximum dosage of metformin for it as well as low carb and exercise.

Yes he's been really good about that already. He's a pro at dealing with insurance -- the word infertility is never uttered on paperwork until it has to be
