Was just wondering if anyone else on the forum has been diagnosed with Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)?

I was officially diagnosed last year..With the Hormone imbalance, the Insulin resistance ( high insulin levels) and Cystic patters.

Oh, PCOS....darn you!

I am a sufferer. But I am happy to report that when we wanted kiddos, it DID happen! Lots of tests, medicine, fertility drugs, etc. Not an easy road, and sometimes PCOS can lead to pregnancy complications, as it did with me. BUT, BUT, BUT....I have THE most gorgeous two young men asleep upstairs, despite my crappy ovaries.

Now that we are done having kids, mostly b/c of the PCOS junk, it is kind of worse. Weight gain, hairier, bad periods. Sigh. Birth control helps with these things, though.

I have been through it all, and would be happy to answer any questions!

I found that the BC pills made me gain weight

which is counter productive in my case as i need to lose the weight not gain more

I have PCOS with Insulin Resistance and high/normal testosterone, unsure of how cystic I am, though I did have to go to the ER once because of a huge one. I am on a drug right now called spironolactone, which is supposed to assist in my hormones leveling out without stopping ovulation. I thought it was working at first, but then, over the last two months have had it increased twice with little to no results.

I have yet another doctor appt with my specialist Doc on the 19th. I really hope to God they know what to do for me then.

Has your Dr put you on Metformin for the Insulin resistance? Or mentioned it?
