Chick #1 is here! (Posted on the October hatch-a-long thread, but I have a 30 minute video of the whole process currently uploading, and my best friend got to watch it over Skype. Yay!)

I sadly lost one of my duckies to suffocation causing me to externally pip the other 9. None are out of the shell yet but those 9 are doing good

I candled Minnies eggs First time she sat on 18 eggs. 1) lost 3 eggs due to other hens breaking them , 2) 6 eggs were not fertilized , I dont know which hen my rooster doesnt like !!! 3) Minnie already hatched 6 babies . 4) she got three left hopelly hatch any time soon ! Minnie is a very good mommy ! she let her babies jump all her her !! Dominique is sitting on 6 eggs due on the 12th . I dont know if she will hatch them or not, she is NOT a good mother, she doesnt stay in her nest long enough, BUT the eggs looks good . I am hoping she wont kill her babies !

Yay! We did it, finally we have 3 chicks hatched by this morning. We were all so excited to see them. Hoping we get a bit more by the end of this week. I never thought it would work.

I'm so glad to see some of you have gotten your little hatchlings too.

So my results are...mixed. I put in 7 eggs. 1 egg didn't grow at all. Out of the other 6, all 6 developed fully - even down to absorbing the yolk. 1 hatched perfectly. 1 pipped but got stuck and couldn't zip so I had to help it out. Same day, 1 pipped in the wrong spot and I had to move quickly to help that one out. Apparently in helping those 2, I managed to get the other 3 shrink wrapped in their membranes. :'( So this morning I cracked 3 eggs with perfect chicks in them, all dead. But the ones I saved made it, so I got 3 chicks out of the batch. I'm so incredibly sad that I caused the death of 3 chicks.

Now my incubator is only holding 99 degrees even though it ran 99 all 3 weeks ... I'm thinking it's because the weather has turned. (We don't have heat, just a fireplace). My next batch of eggs is coming next week. I need to get it ready by then. And try not to kill any chicks this time. :( :(
