Well, he/she made a liar out of me........nothing since 9 am. That is a bantam ee, and the Daddy is a splash silkie. I have hatched them once before.....click on my web link and the first 3 pics on the page are mom, dad and the 3 babies. They are sooooo sweet.

Good luck Lurky!! I bet those will be some cute babies!!

Advice needed.......My first pip was this morning at 9 am. Since that time, the chick has been peeping so i know its still alive........but it will be 6 hours now and not even an attempt to do any more. i would love opinions on when to help it out. I think i normally would have helped by now, but at a friends advice i am trying to stay away. Anyone???

I don't really know other than it needs air to breathe... is there a little hole in the shell where it can get air? That would be the most important thing at this point I think. Trying intervene too soon could be bad as if they have not absorbed all the yolk they will have an open umbilical cord which can lead to infection and death. And then you also have to worry about the blood vessels and if there is any blood... you could cause them to bleed to death. I have heard that some chicks can take a full day (24 hours) to hatch, so I think I would just see if there is a little hole pecked through so it can breathe. Hopefully someone more experienced can give you more advice!

Just be sure to keep the humidity up,so they don't dry out and the hatcher closed to keep out the drafts...I've got mine full of lt. brown leghorns, the first batch this year....hatching as we speak.
