Anyone else have chicks shipping this week?

I'm expecting my shipment of 5 chicks next week, 2 assorted silkies, 1 assorted polish, 1 silver laced wyandotte and 1 buff orpington. I am excited and nervous at the same time. I hope the little ones make it ok in the mail. Reading about PulletSurpriseWinner's horrible situation was heart breaking - I'm so sorry!! I hope yours arrive healthy and well! Please post pics!

Adenium - what colors did you get in silkies? I am excited to see what the "assorted" is. My one silkie is a buff and what a sweetheart she is. LOVES to be rubbed and massaged, will doze off in your lap.

Well, my chicks arrived yesterday all safe and healthy, I'm so thankful!! Especially after reading about what happened to PulletSurpriseWinner's chicks! I am so so sorry that that happened!! I saw on another thread that you decided to get from a local hatchery today, so let us know how that goes!! Will you be putting them under your sweet broody hen? I'm so curious how that turns out :)

So my chicks are all bantams and they are so tiny, reminds me of little cottonballs with legs! I had ordered 4 assorted silkies and in that assortment, I got 1 black, 1 blue, and 2 partridge. And then I ordered an assortment of feather-legged bantams and I think I got buff brahmas and maybe some mille fluer d'uccles, not quite sure. And I also ordered a black frizzle and so hope that it turns out to actually have the frizzle feathers! I will post some pictures later on today or tomorrow!

Anyone else that's expecting, post when they come!

Hugapug (awesome name by the way), I wish we had an even bigger assortment! The plan was 2 white, 2 red, 2 black, until I put my foot down and demanded some standard chickens. So we eliminated 1 black and 1 red.

They are all beautiful. Black had some gray spots until she started getting her more mature fluff, and she's now jet black. The red looked like a partridge up until a few days ago - now she's getting some nice red coloring in on her chest and the back of her neck. I think she'll be my favorite color - buff was my choice for silkies but I think this will be pretty similar. The whites looked a little whiter with the newer fluff coming in, but I swear they're still slightly yellow.

They do indeed look like cottonballs. I am so happy with the fluffy tail development. DH looked like a kid at Christmas last night, holding one in his lap and petting that little rabbit tail. His face was pure glee.

Prizma don't forget about those pics. We all have insatiable baby-chick-pic appetites. Very glad to hear yours arrived safe and sound. I am interested to see PulletSurprise's new ones too. I'm hoping this installment doesn't cause her any grief.

OMG the PO called at 7(? I thought they didnt open til 9am) anyways I got home late from work and just got the message its only 9am am showering and OFF to get them! WHatt do I do first? Water with electrolytes I guess and then decide which brooder (I have 2 wire dog cages, 1 XXL enclosed dog crate-- yes I have 3 dogs, and a choice of 2 diiferent cardboard boxes...) I guess water and feed immediately-- its going to be 96 degress today do I have to put them under the lamp or just put them outside to stay toasty while I finalize the Brooder-- Iguess I wont really know how much space 15 chicks takes up til I see them -- More later

Here are just a couple of pictures I took from last night, for some reason, most of my photos turned out blurry, so I will have to take some more.

The first is of my Partridge Silkie and Blue Silkie.....oh the fluffy cuteness!

The next is of what I believe is a buff brahma bantam and also a black silkie :)

I had them sit on my daughter's princess chair...thought it was fitting for them

CAJerseyChick, you're SHOWERING first? Crazy woman. I was up and out of bed at 6a with the post office call and out the door in 5 minutes. Pants, top, shoes, wallet, keys, DONE!

I think bigger is better brooder wise - and SECURE since you have dogs. I moved mine into a 5 x 3 megabox made out of 3 boxes so they'd have room to run and jump and practice chicken behaviors. I have 7 - for 15 I'd go bigger. If you use dog crates make sure they can't slip out - maybe line it with something - I've seen multiple tales of that happening here and then chickie becomes a quick snack for the dogs or dies away from the heat lamp.

And yes, dip those little beaks asap and set them down with food. To avoid stress I'd put them in their brooder asap rather than outside and then moving them again.

Good luck!

Oh I'm so excited for you! Let us know how everything is going as soon as you have them settled in! And post pics if you can!!

Prizma they're adorable! The blue is sooooo puffy, it looks like it's wearing a spacesuit helmet! Thanks for sharing. I miss the baby stage already, though I don't miss the worrying. I worry enough at the 4 week point now....
