Anyone else just now starting to "line dry" their clothes outside?

I've started back. I have one of those pull-out lines that I pull across the deck. It's convenient, but won't hold much.

Same in AR. If it's raining for a week, we hang things around the house indoors. (a wire XL dog crate makes a good temporary sock drying rack, lol)

We don't own a dryer. On the rare occasion that we need an emergency dry we go to the laundromat down the street or visit MIL.

This thread caught my eye as I was recently talking about the use of clothes lines and the popularity of use in both Australia and the USA.. My friend with whom I was discussing it with says they havent got an out door clothes line ????? OMG I was shocked - I hadnt owned a drier in years until recently when a friend was selling his off very cheap.

Oh are you serious???? Making a yard look trashy????? You should tell them to reduce your rent to help cover the costs of running a drier.

Mine doubles in summer as extra shade for the ducks as I cover it with some shadecloth!!
The good old Hills Hoist is an Australian Icon... I almost always us mine- even in winter and despite sometimes having to rewash things that have hung too low and the ducks have nibbled on the edges of sheets and towels.
My drier is used to finish off clothes that havent finished drying when they are brought in off the line...And for things that would otherwise need to be ironed..

I do a mix of air drying and using the dryer. We have drying racks that we use inside year around for the more delicate stuff (underwear, good shirts, shrikables) and the dryer for the more heavy duty stuff (jeans, unshrinkables). We do have a heavy duty energy saver dryer.

When DH and I were first married I used a wringer washer and hung our clothes all the time...(no dryer)

I've since graduated to a real honest-to-goodness washing machine and gas dryer but still love to hang our sheets.

Whenever we have a sunny day, our sheets are flapping in the wind.

Those old wringer washers worked great didn't they! I had one I got at a yard sale... wish I still had it!

I used to have line poles at my old house. We had to do some excavation to the drive way so the poles had to be pulled up... this was about 15 yrs ago. Glad I stored them in the back on my other property.... We've since built a new house on it! So, last weekend I dug holes and put 2 of them back in the ground. It's been nice putting clothes back out on the line.... looks like I get laundry done faster too!

Can't wait to see if it has an impact on my ele bill!

Hello! I've had a couple of loads out there on the line, but this year, it's become a rainy spring.......so I am forced to use the dryer. I don't like to dry towels on the line though.....they're SOOOOO SCRATCHY!
