Anyone else keep their birds as pets? (Not for food)

Well.. mine were SUPPOSED to be for food......
The second I met them I changed my mind LOL. But I do want lots of egg layers and then whatever eggs we don't eat we've been thinkin' we'd sell enough to pay for their food, fencing repairs toys etc and the rest could go to the local food banks :P

Being a outdoors man I never thought I would get attached to the hens. We got them mainly because my wife was relentless. Started with 4 pullets we were up to 10 but lost Buffy out of the blue unexpectedly. I have been amazed how different each and everyone is. Chicken Little just hatched 8 of the twelve eggs we bought for her. She is a great momma. Now Buckwheat is sick. Buffy just died for no season! Just found her dead one morning.knew Buckwheat was sick but a couple of days ago she was out scratching and eating with the girls. Today she won't come out. This will be my first hen I will have to put down. I have killed and ate numerous wild turkey but I have to admit this makes me sad!
