Anyone else living without AC in the heat?

No A/C here. Only gets hot enough to need it about 10 times per summer. We're at 6800 feet and if there's any breeze at all it is just fine.

Now I lived in Ft Worth for 7 years. The goal in life there is to go from one air conditioned area to the next. When i would go for rides on my bike the wind felt like a blast furnace. I'll never live there again.

I'm right there with you. We live in the Phoenix valley in Arizona and it isn't unusual to see 112 or above daytime and 90 nights. We have not run the central air at all this summer. We vowed to try not too so we run the evaporative cooler day and night. If the dewpoint gets above 60 it is pretty useless except to keep the air moving.87 degrees inside was the worst day so far. We shut the hot water tank off all summer since the cold water from the faucet is almost hot due to the hot ground. By hanging the wash out, turning off the hot water, sink washing the dishes and using my solar ovens almost exclusively, our light bill for July was only $107.00. We live in a 14x72 foot mobile home.

We never had central air or a/c's in NY...since moving to SW VA, I can not imagine life without it. We only run it when we have to and turn it off at night while we sleep with fans on.

Sometimes I even bring my older chickens in at the worst time of the day for a little reprieve.

After reading about diapers, saddles and such, I'm very surprised there aren't folks on here who have AC in the coops. There may be, who knows?

We had A/C's about three years ago, but my husband got sick of putting them in so he had central air installed. It is cheaper than the a/c's were.

There are. Mahonri might be one of those

And with as much time as I spend in the chicken barn, if I could a/c it....I would.

Oh yes...some folks definitely run a little ac in their coops...lol! I actually considered it at one point, but went with fans instead

I felt guilty that the dogs, the cats, and the family could run to the house and relax in 75 degree coolness while the chickens could sit there with their wings out and pant in their 98 degree shady spot, which was probably more like 105 w/heat index.

And yes, we HAVE become a spoiled, soft people. Probably MOST of us (at least of the 40 and over crowd) grew up without AC. As a teen, I thought we were doing great to have ceiling fans!! These days, I guess I'd be camping out in the basement all day if we didn't have air conditioning. I'm skinny and cold natured, have always joked about looking forward to menopause because I'd finally be WARM. Well this summer has cured me of any desire for hot flashes, because I only need step out onto the porch to instantly be covered in a warm film of sweat...

No ac here. I used to work and "live" in a year round controlled temp office. I had my fill of it. We are surrounded by large maples, with a nice breeze most of the time.
