I, intentionally, did so, last year, just to see what my electric bill would be. I did knock off about $30 per month....Now, I have a 12x65 mobile home, which I have rebuilt, completely, from the inside. Three walls are 2x6, one wall 2x4, ceiling, 2x8's. Every surface is insulated, including the floor.
The trick was to keep the air moving through the house, all day long, so that, in the evening, the inside temp was the same as the outside temp. During the evening, you sat directly in front of a fan. It worked.
I went on vacation, this year, early June, and left the windows open, with fan on, but when I returned, after 10 days, the place just smelled dank and damp, and the only way to dry it out, in this Florida humidity, was to turn on the AC.
Note that I have a window ac, built into the wall. I just leave it on, from daylight to dark, then, shut it off. Due to the place being so well insulated, it holds about 80, for the whole night.
I've also taken to flipping the breaker, on the water heater, during the day, to offset the use of the AC.
My electric bill, last month was $98. I can't complain.
