Anyone else not doing Christmas this year?

Christmas has been commercialized for most of my life, I'm not sure it's changed a lot. I can't afford gifts this year due to some bills, but friends will make expensive gifts unimportant. I feel very, very Christmasy. I'm going to make a few small items, and cook.

I think if people are angry about Christmas being commercialized or political correctness and Christmas symbols, they can get the spirit of Christmas really well, by working for Meals on Wheels and delivering meals that day, by working at the local homeless shelter, by visiting a nursing home, etc.

This is coming from someone who worked on Christmas all year long, we would get up the day after Christmas, go to Cracker Barrel and get the bargains, then go onto the other stores and get stuff for the following year. I honestly have enough of those outside lights that dangle to do two or three homes . . .WM had them for less than a $.50 a box one year, and we snapped up all they had. Then when we found out what a pain in the kadoodle they were to mess with, we left the others alone

. . .I have Xmas bags for gifts by the dozens . . .I knew where to go for the best deals, and we never spent more than $100 for bags upon bags of goodies for the following year. . .when DH got disabled, that all came to an end, but we had surplus, so not a problem. Now, the gift buying was . . .so I simply am very honest with the family and they all understand. DS is 10 and he comes beyond and above the rest of them. . . . .I do plan on cookie baskets to a small degree this year, and I LOVE the idea of home made gifts or cheap as possible bought gifts. . .we, as a nation, do have a tendancy to over do for this holiday. . . .although I admit I love a pretty tree . . .but haven't had a chance to put mine up yet, because our oldest DS had to move back home after a split

and he has taken over the FR, so my space is limited for a tree . . .but going to try anyway . . .but I love the music and the lights and the general feeling of the holiday, we should never never forget the real reason for the season!!!!

Ha, that reminds me of a work Christmas party I went to. A friend of mine and I got together and for the Cranky co workers we didn't particularly enjoy we made exlax brownies. OMG. That was years ago and we were quite immature but as mortified as I am to think I actually did something like that it still makes me laugh so hard I pee my pants.

Christ is not the smiting type! Oh, Father forgive me for I know not what I do. He is however forgiving. That I can count on.

Whatever you do, however you do it, do it in such a way that it is festive and fun for all. The darkest part of the season is best dealt with by trying hard not to be miserable even if you have to fake it. Joy is contagious, just don't ruin it with buyer's remorse.

No, offense, but where have you been the last couple of years?? They've been denigrating Christmas for awhile. Stores were not saying Merry Christmas, just Happy Holidays. I will not frequent a store that says Happy Holidays. After all, Jesus is the reason for the season. I for one will be saying Merry Christmas. I'm sick of all the political correctness.

On the other hand, instead of my immediate family and in-laws exchanging gifts that we REALLY don't need, and could do without, we're donating CHICKENS!!

, and maybe two goats to either Heifer Project or Samaritan's Purse, or some other organization like that. I LOVE the chicken idea, 'cause it's the gift that keeps on giving!

Merry Christmas!
