I missed the national news broadcast last night, so I can't comment on that. It was not there the two previous nights though. Lately the national network news seems to report little more than the Middle East unrest and weather, especially weather in the northeast where they are, so I am not that surprised they have failed to mention anything about it.

There was a decent write-up in the newspaper about it this morning, but mostly about the Democrats skipping the state to avoid a quorum in the legislature. They did give some background.

I guess it depends on where you get your news. To me, any broadcast news only reports on a few things that fits their agenda. They don't cover very many different stories and seem to harp on the very few they do cover until it gets sickening. A decent newspaper, however, covers a lot of different things.

I saw this on my sisters facebook page...we are about 40 min. from the hotel they chose to stay at. It's a crappy hotel....perplexing how they chose to stay there?

The only thing going for it is the inside water park...but even that's nothing to write home about...I joked that they were there playing inside Coco Keys...but the funny thing is, I bet the park is crowded today due to schools being off due to school improvement day.

As for local news, if it does not happen in RENO or next door in CA then our news reporters do not think it is news.

I have seen coverage on the national news.

Lets see the Law makers drop THEIR salary first - to help balance any budget.

The governor of Wisconsin wants to take away the state employees right to bargain. Union busting, plain and simple. As a union member, I would like to see an alternative to going on strike when negotiations fail, but sometimes it is the only thing that gets the attention of the company. 2011 is a contract year for us and I am hoping we do not strike, but I am trying to save up in case we do. I hear and understand arguments on both sides as to the necessity of unions. I am glad that I have the union behind me as the company I work for does not care about anything but the bottom line. Some of my co-workers complain about the union constantly. They think that the company wants to pay their high school educated butts 75k a year and that the union has nothing to do with it or the good benefits that we receive. They don't think about what our work lives would be like without union representation.

Sorry to get off topic, in a way, but I am proud to be a union member. My husband, before his retirement was also a union member. I wish more workers were able to organize and have the protection of unions behind them. Unfortunately, the numbers of workers affiliated with unions is declining.

Hmm, maybe it depends on where you are. It was all over the major networks last night here. I kind of ignored it and concentrated on BYC. Thought it sounded like a publicity stunt. Albeit a loud publicity stunt.

The governor want to takes away collective bargaining for teachers, and other state employees, but isn't touching firefighters, state police or local police. If collective bargaining is so bad, why are these groups being left out? Wisconsin has had this law since 1959, I don't think this is what is causing the budget ills. It is politics at its best with one side saying that this will help the budget, and the other side getting out of dodge.

It's not just union busting, but that is part of it. To reduce state spending, they are wanting some state employees, including teachers, to start paying more for certain benefits. It supposedly amounts to a 7% pay reduction. This is probably an average and different for most employees. And it is split along party lines. Republican elected officials are for this and the elected Democrats oppose it.

I'm sure it is more complicated than this, but this is my understanding of the basics. Reduce the power of the unions and reduce state spending by having some state employees pay for more of their benefits, I believe mainly health benefits.

It's been featured on MSNBC pretty prominently. And, I've been reading more about it this morning on the CNN website. Sorry, couldn't tell you anything about Fox News
