Anyone else Raising Chicks right now?

My little divas are, um, 5 weeks old? I think? (I'm not so good with time. I had to put in my calendar what temp to turn their brooder to.) They only get to go out when it's above 60F and I am changing the cage floor...

I've got an easter egger and two black copper marans.

Here are some chicks I took out of the incubator tonight. Two pics, one of the front side and one of the back side of the tub. There are Buff, Partridge,Cuckoo, Blue and White Silkies, Blue or Splash Polish, Buff Barred and Barred Cochins(both bantam and large fowl), Dominiques, Red Pyle, White, and some project Rosecombs, umm, I think that is all..

More due in a few days and set some more tonight also. I don't think all these chicks will stay in this tub long before they will be needing more room...ahhh need to build more OUTDOOR brooders.

I have 4 eggs still in the hatcher that were due the 9th. Since I've had day 25 hatches I'm waiting a few days to toss them out. That's 4 out of 36 or 38 eggs that even made it this far.

I have 7 in a garage about 11 weeks old. In the kitchen I have one brooder with 6 and another with 3 and in the living room another 3 since I lost one day after they hatched,

I have a dozen due Christmas and 68 due New Years. I also need to change my egg count on the New Years hatch, cause I just remembered that 12 were due the 25th. Darn it I messed up the count!

Wow after reading everyones chick and hatching stories I feel normal-nice to know we're not alone in our chicken addictions

We have chicks from 2-6 weeks and some hatching now. I noticed many of you mentioned your chicks are in the house and that brings me to my question. What sort of bedding do you find to be the cleanest and least dusty when the little buggers are in the house? DH, who's an addict like myself, was using a wading pool with pine shavings. I finally had to insist-no more pool-to many in the house, with 4 dogs and a woodstove it was impossible to keep up with the dust. We now have a small tub that we line with paper towels and they can be in here for 2 days, then out to shop. However I know what will happen if we get a cold snap or power outtage, so would like to be prepared!

I'm raising a single Phoenix chick...well the mom is actually. It's kind of an anxious time as I was not at all prepared and it was unexpected. I never thought a hen would go broody leading into winter. The chick is now about six weeks old and is transitioning into the flock. The mom is acting like a pro considering this is her first time. She keeps it warm at night under her. I did break down and bring the two of them indoors when the temperature dipped close to -20 C. It's facinating watching her teach the chick the chicken basics.

Fresh out of the incubator and I'm the new mommy to bantam polish chicks - looks like 3 chocolate, 3 khaki, and 2 black - all with white tophats. Also 1 Cubalaya, 4 lavender bantam cochin, 1 barred bantam cochin, 1 black bantam cochin, 2 Ginger Red OEGB, 1 Blue Gold OEGB, and at least 10 Blue Andalusian chicks. More chicks coming the 24th - my Christmas gift is set already.

And then another batch due the 1st of January so we are starting the year off right. Black eyed peas, cornbread, and newly hatched chicks, oh yeah.

Temps expected to drop to 24 degrees tonight and my gosh that is COLD for us this time of year!

The guys are outside putting in extra heat lamps on chicks. Will be glad to get back to our usual temperatures!
