Anyone else setting eggs this weekend? 8-3-12?

My chick pipped the wrong side, bled and died.:(

What happened?

I opened up the egg and the yolk was still in tact. Is it normal for an early pip and the wrong way? My temp and humidity are fine. I see 4 moving and pipped, but the right way. Now I'm scared for more deaths.

The one that died was a perfect pure bred black Ameracuana chick. My husband wants a black chick really badly too.

If these don't work, I'm immediately ordering more asap and hatching all over. I found a breeder I think I can trust on a different online site. I need some hens for showing for next summer.

Here's another pipped chick. They are peeping too.:D

So glad to hear everyone is making progress. :) I love seeing all the pictures of the babies. My two are still doing fine...just chilling in the brooder...waiting for their mates to arrive. I have 12 FBCM day olds coming from KY, on their way now. :) They should be here tonight or tomorrow.

Ok, so if a chick hatches and dries off, do I move the chick to the brooder or wait until the others are done? I don't want to open the incubator while the others are still working on getting out.

If you have others that have pipped or are zipping I would not open it to take the chick out. The chick will be fine in there. My incubator directions say during hatching time if I must open the incubator to wait at least 6 hours between times. So there has been times when a chick will hatch first and others are working on and the chick has been in there a better part of 24 hours. It is okay for them. They just absorbed the yolk right before hatch, so they are fully hydrated and have nourishment from the yolk. You risk making the other chicks membrane shrink wrap down around them if they lose the humidity and heat in the incubator.

I'm glad I'm doing this right.
