Anyone else use an egg basket?

We have one like this

but rarely have enough eggs for it. It was given to us when we first got our girls, and we had visions of going out to collect eggs w/it each day. But we usually just end up grabbing them individually, bringing them in the house (my son uses the pocket method as well) and putting them in a a carton in the fridge. With 6 chickens and 1-2 eggs per day, the whole carrying the basket out thing seems a bit ridiculous. I don't know why, though, the thought never occurred to me to leave the whole basket out on the counter w/the eggs in it. At least the pretty basket could be seen, especially since I use them up as quick as they can lay 'em...

Kikster, I LOVE that basket! I almost bought one like it on ebay.
I actually have several egg baskets, but only use the cheapie one from Walmart in the craft section. I get maybe 10 eggs a day at most, and you really don't need a very large basket for that few. I'd love to get an egg 'butt' basket, that is divided like a, well, you know. It effectively gives you two sections for storage in one basket.

I'm afraid at my house it would become an egg "rollercoaster"!

I only wish i needed a basket - I'm only getting 2 eggs a day. Those girls need to start earning their keep!

Nah, I couldn't trust my son in law around that egg skelter. He's worse than his kids about touching and playing with everything. I have to smack his hand once in a while when he starts to get into something.

I have one of those collapsable egg baskets that belonged to my grandmother. My sister brought it to me after I got my chickens. It is out in my chicken house just waiting for that first egg. I plan to frame a pic of my first egg in that basket. I also have one of those wire baskets in the shape of a chicken. Now I want one of those egg scales, preferably an old one, to set out in my kitchen. I'm hitting the antique stores in town asap. Never would I have dreamed 2 yrs ago I'd be interested in chicken stuff! Never thought I'd ever cuddle a chicken, let alone be feeling them up to see if there was an egg back there just dying to get laid. LOL

I use a pretty basket that I found at a church garage sale for 25 cents, and put a dollar store bag of Spanish moss in it. I also collect pretty, clean feathers that I find in the nest boxes, to line the moss with. The eggs look even prettier that way. I'm beginning to eye a basket my mother has been offering me (that I thought I wouldn't need), though. As my new flock is laying more and more, and the other flock continues, there is less and less room in that basket.
