Anyone else waiting for thier first egg?

This is my first time with chickens. My buff orps are 17 weeks today. Since we live in an area that doesn't get TOO cold there's no electricity in the coop.

My worry is that with the days getting ever shorter, that by the time they are old enough to lay, there won't be enough daylight to "stimulate" them.

DO they lay in the late fall and winter, at all? Or am I resigned to waiting until spring has sprung?

Kindof update!! I am now getting up to 9 eggs a day WOOHOOO! it seemed like once the one started within 3 weeks the other ladies started still waiting on other though have about 10 hens that still need to start laying. and my eggs are yummy yummy!!!!

I believe they will lay through the winter. Least that is what I have read on some of the posts I know they need about 12- 14 hours of daylight correct me if im wrong in the winter to lay.

All of my bantams have been laying since Aug 4, Moon my head girl went 56 days straight before missing. But I bought two full size girls a red sex link and a EE'er who are 8 weeks behind my bantams at 21 weeks now but they just watch the little ones work and and are driving me crazy

I can't wait to see what color Mango is going to lay. All the bantams and silkies lay variation on tan, white spots red spots and strange shapes. Although it is fun to watch the little chickens chasing the big one's around.

Oh yes, more or less patiently waiting.

20 weeks old and no eggs yet, not unusual for my breed under free-range conditions, but ... yeah I´m waiting. And very curious to see how/if their egg weight and colour will differ from the eggs of their mothers. Exciting

I've given up. I got 2 EE pullets 7 weeks ago & was told they were "weeks away from laying"... Their faces are JUST now starting to get pink! The woman didn't remember when they hatched, so who knows when they're going to lay, buy holy moly, they better start laying soon, they are too much of a pain in the neck to be free loading!

Only one of my three started laying last week. Still waiting on the Silver Laced Wyandotte and the Buff Orpington. We're up to three eggs so far and each time it was such a thrill to peek into the nest box and see that egg sitting there. I think the girls were impressed too, because on Sunday when I looked to see if there was another egg, all three girls were in the coop looking intently at the egg as if to say "Wow, what is that? So pretty. Oooh, shiny object!" It was pretty hilarious.

I had the funniest thing happen today! One of my Australorp pullets was on the nest when I went down to let them out to free range and give them scraps. She forgot herself excited to join the others getting treats and came running out only to plop the egg at my feet as she ran by! Don't even think she realized she dropped an egg instead of a dropping

It didn't break, so that's good!

Yep, still waiting, and watching, and running out when I hear lots of noise. Yesterday, I was changing the water, and telling the hens I expect some
eggs soon, and the rooster flew up into the one nest box. He was very interested in the hay and the golf balls. The hens mean while have no interest...so he needs to do some convincing....

Yep, still waiting here, too.

I bought one BPR roo and two BPR hens at a livestock sale 10 days ago, and put them in with the 6 adolescent Guinea birds in my coop.

No eggs, yet, but I'm keeping the faith...
