I'm also trying to decrease the plastic used in our kitchen, although finding items not wrapped in plastic is a real challenge. Swapping out storage containers makes me feel better, and not heating foods in plastic, ditto.
More importantly, how about having your bird's eggs tested for lead content? We did that here, and all negative, happily. Our farm buildings were never painted before we bought the place, so no lead paint in or on the buildings or in the soil near them. That's just not true many places!
Growing up in an older home, lead paint, asbestos, wonderful stuff at the time, certainly not now! Microplastics don't sound all that safe, but we are at the start of this story, seems like we've traded one set of issues for another...
