Yes, I did go to the festival in Dubach last year. All I can say is please don't get your hopes to high. I was greatly disappointed. There weren't even any chickens there, just a few junk food vendors and such. However, if some of y'all decide to go, let me know and I may try to join you.

Sorry. I guess I should have introduced myself. I am Paula, and I live in a little town called Branch, La. It is north of Rayne, which is about 20 mins east of Lafayette. I grew up in Lafayette, and moved out to the country here about 7 years ago.

I know Paula. I lurked for a little while when I first joined, to see if there were any other members from LA on here. Well, I saw one or two, so I wanted to see if there were more. I know that we have approx. 30 people from LA on here. Not all have posted to this thread, but I have seen them making other posts on to other threads.

I guess that there are so many members that alot of us just don't see the others that are on here...lol

we live in central la. we were without power for a day. we had alot of wind up here, so people had damage we only had some limbs down. our poor neighbor was without power for 5 days, but they had a generator. we bought our land about a year or two before katrina and it had this trailer on it. well my husband just fell in love with this land, 13 acres that backs up to the national forest. he said he would fix up the trailer and we would pay off the land and then build. well let me tell you, I was scared to death in this trailer, i think the winds got up to 60 miles per hour up here if i remember right with i think katrina, rita was not as bad here, we got alot of rain and some wind. but not like with katrina, my little boy was just a infant and we had gotten him out of bed and put him in a portable play pen with us. he slept right through it! we were up worried. we could have gone to my dad's house but forecasters here did not think it would be that bad around here.

i feel sorry for everyone down south la., my husband works with guys offshore that are still fixing up there homes! i remember andrew was pretty bad for south louisiana too. i lived in baton rouge then and we were without power for four or five days. thank God yall are okay after going through that mess!

We stayed at our home in Covington (outside New Orleans) during Katrina and watched it all through the floor to ceiling windows that were in every room and we could not cover them with plywood because you couldn't get any and there was no way to get it done in time even if you could.

All I can say is "Praise to the awesome power of God." It was amazing. Our property is heavily wooded and good thing we had cut most of the pines that were immediately next to home just a few years prior because we watched hundreds of huge old pines just sway right over to the ground, roots and all. These were old growth pine trees -huge - just layed down like nothing to it. Well didn't just lay down - hit with a force that shook the ground like an earthquake and for hours they fell and boomed and shook the ground. Amazing. When it was all over we had over 100 felled pines in our "yard" alone, we didn't bother going into the wooded areas to assess damage. But we also had over 100 little ponds they left when the root ball and all came up plus the water and sewer pipes and electrical wiring they uprooted. What a mess to clean up. Best thing to come of the storm was a couple of days after it hit someone knocked on our door and it was my son, who was supposed to be in Kuwait serving in Army. They had let him return to New Orleans to help us. With all the damage around us I was so grateful to see him. How he got in I have no idea, roads were impassable, airport was closed for months - he flew into another city and got a ride in. We were without electricity for two months. But God is good, our home had very, very minor damage (a small hole in roof) and we were fine and my son got to come home and help us with clean up. We got to sit and watch a category 5 hurricane pass right over and lived to tell the tale and it was an awesome thing to see but if I never have to see another one that is great by me.

wow ruth! what a blessing to have your son be able to show up like that, that had to be the best gift in a storm of problems!
glad you faired pretty goodl, i know alot of people did not and are still fixing up there homes.
