I know I know, Who cares about school? Actually it's my older son Connor who wants to stay up and watch them hatch. Charlie is off to bed like a good little boy. Connor and I placed our bets on how many would be hatched by morning (Connor 8, Mom 9) and he scooted off to bed. I am finishing the dishes and a glass of blackberry wine and then I will be ready for sleep. 8 miles on the bike trail wore me out today. Goodnight, I will update our hatch in the morning.

The second I am worried about is still attached to the egg by a small pink thing?.

Taraann81..the little pink thing will dry and the egg will fall off. Don't worry about it. Just give him time to rest and dry off.​

I candled the rest of the chicken eggs the 7 left and saw no movement. If I am unsure of life I always peck a hole in the air cell on top of the egg and peek inside sure enough all 7 were dead. 4 were upside down heads at the bottom feet up top. One had a misshapped air sac that ran from a small part at the time all the way down the side. The other 2 didnt have any evidence of why they didnt live or try to hatch.

Turkey chicks have such cute little peeps! They sound like they are whistling...so cute!

I started with 35 eggs . I have 12 happy bouncing babies in the brooder of which I'm happy.

However, I had one chick which died after it hatched for no obvious reason... 1 tossed three eggs that obviously never developed... I have one chick in the bator which has hatched, but is not doing well, and 18 eggs which have done nothing yet!! That's only a 37% hatch rate on shipped eggs. Not real happy with those figures. I do have two pips, so maybe my hatch rate will improve before morning. We'll see. I'll be so glad when my own chickens start laying so I won't have to hatch shipped eggs.

Did I mention I ordered more eggs today?

I think I need a therapist!

I've got 5 now!! And another pipped out of 24.

Even if this is all I get, it's more than I expected. I don't open the hatcher to take them out till tomorrow, as per the dry incubation instructions. Hope they do okay in there!
