..So, what breeds are you incubating?

Hi Cynthia - I'm so glad your chicks and your hubby did well the other day.

I have always wanted to try barred rocks

I even ordered some hatching eggs one time but I think the seller made a mistake, all the chicks were white. I didn't end up keeping any of them. I also lost several bid on frizzles this time around. I had to stop bidding on eggs 'cause I was up to full capacity, I've even had to layer a few eggs on top of my turning tray, there should be plenty of room after I candle though, I'm sure a bunch of these eggs will not develop...

I just bought a Brinsea Mini-Advance the last of Feb. and have been anxiously waitng for my Nankin Banty eggs to arrive, first batch last week never reached me, lost in Postal Cyberspace, sent a new batch which I got today and set this evening. So 12 Nankin and 2 Banty Wellsummer that a friend picked up for herself at a poultry show today. Squeezed them all in so needless to say I am handturning this batch, I hope I dont mess it up. I calculated they should hatch the 9th of April, but I am perplexed at one of the members on this thread said theirs is due the 10th and set before mine? unless they are not chicken eggs? I hope Brinsea has a hatch contest for April:D

I should have a batch of 4 modern game bantams on 4/3 and another batch around the 12th of duck eggs, more bantams and possibly some standard mix breeds.

I have 15 barred rocks that should hatch 4-7 in my homemade incubator. I candled them today and they have small veining and a small heart. These were shipped eggs and my second attempt. The first ended in a failed hatch of 6 buff orpington, none were fertile.

whidbeylife4me - yeah, must be ducks.
So bummed you lost your package, but yay to the seller who was willing to replace the eggs!!

I have to say I hate and love the post office. If it wasn't for shipping I wouldn't have any chickens. But, the way they handle the packages really messes up the eggs!

A lot of my eggs looked terrible even before I started them. I don't think I'm going to get many chicks this time, I candle on Wednesday to see how they're doing.

The suspense is killing me!!

I am actually incubating my own eggs to get the hang of it before I start with expensive shipped eggs. Lol. It will either be a red laced blue americauna or blue laced red. Blue hen and RIR roo.

Along with some other mismatched eggs. 4 in total. Just to see how well I can do.

CCourson05 - I sooo wish I could get eggs without shipping. I'm certain I'd have a good hatch rate. The main post office here that processes all the eggs runs them over those crazy bumpy roller things. It ends up scrambling the eggs.

Enjoy the process! And happy hatching to everyone...

My hens have been slowing down on egg production too, which is odd. Now is the best time for eggs. I don't get them sometimes. Several are broody... The others, I have no idea. I have been getting 3 out of 13 hens. Slow pokes. Lol. As for the eggs, yeah...The post office is rough with all packages. Lol.

I couldn't see the air pocket in one egg, but it was a dark shelled egg. I threw it in there anyway.
