Anyone hatching April 5-7 or so? ALL DONE, READY TO BE LOCKED

OK so I took advice from someone earlier on this or another post, I can't remember, but, I cranked the heat and the shower and brought a humidistat in with me in the bathroom...took the crew/incubator in there and am SO glad that I helped that one out. I also cracked a little bit around the pip for the three others that seem to be a bit behind. I left them in as you could see the blood vessels still right up around them, but, this way they could move a bit forward. That little one screamed until I enabled it to pop out. It was a different type of noise than yesterday's chirp and as soon as it was able to get out, it stopped. I don't believe it would have made it out if I didn't help. I also believe that that noise it made would be made to its mother! I could tell the difference, I swear. Sounds crazy, I know! Anyway, he/she is out. BOY>>>THIS IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART! After I was done....my knees were SO WOBBLY! I am going to post this on another thread that I have going somewhere for the other person who asked. Take care all!

Good for you. I am kicking myself for not cracking the shell of the one cheeping yesterday. In the middle of the night there were no sounds from it or movement so I opened it to find a perfect little chick dead. Guess the shell was too thick and its position not quite right.
So my final total is 6 chicks out of 9 eggs. Two made it to the point of hatch and died in the shell. The 6 live ones are busy learning to eat and drink and the momma is barking at them all the time. Will try to get a picture if the all get out from under her.

One question: I am making my guesses about which are boys and which girls and want to mark them to see how they turn out but HOW can I mark them. I tied a narrow elastic on one's leg yesterday and they got it untied. I tied a piece of yarn on another leg and they got it untied to. A few are dark so dye wouldn't work.....any ideas besides separating them?

Sorry about that loss. I have one too that is just sitting there...perfectly ready...but, when it pipped, I think it hit one of the vessels right away and died pretty early on. Poor bugger... That is great 6 out of 9. I can't believe that I have 13 from 29...hmm...will have to ask questions. I went into lockdown with 22, but I could tell one was dead from day 25 (he was fine on day 24). Left it anyway.

I had 30 eggs originally, 4 went bad early on. 2 I found were bad about day 17. (I checked them all before lockdown) Im down to 24 of the original 30. All were shipped eggs.

Today this morning at about 5 am I woke up to check them and nothing happened yet. The other day I noticed a few wiggling around. Then I checked again at 7 and I had 2 pips!!!

We are about half way though day 20....so I would say thats pretty darn close wouldn't you?

I took some pictures. Ill post them below. The one on the top has since broke out a little more. I couldn't resist.... I had to open the bator to listen.... I heard the chicks chirping!!

While I was at it I threw in a warm wet cloth.......that will jump the humidity up fast. (it was at about 70% anyway) Plus I dont think humidity is much of an issue for me because when i opened the bator the rim was sweating from condensation. However the digital hygrometer that I have always wants to read about 50% no matter what.....even if I open the bator it only changed a few points. The analog dial that I have been going off of changes rapidly if I open the bator.

Did I mention that this is my first ever hatch??? Hopefully I get that beginners luck thing. So far everything seems great!

Interesting thing I had happen.... I bought 18 eggs from the same place.. All shipped in the same package. 9 EE and 9 Buff O. All 9 buffs are still going. 4 of the EEs went bad and 3 very early. Now the first 2 piping are also those EEs Is that normal for shipped eggs? or is maybe the breed of Buffs more hardy? Or was the EE eggs bad? I noticed a few are small compared to the others. One of the small ones went bad late.
I just found it strange that even though all the other variables were identical that one is already down to almost 50% and the other is still at 100%. At this time....No Im not counting my chickens before they are hatched.

16+ chicks as of this morning, for this batch (turns day 21 this evening). That one with the seeping yolk blends in with everyone else right now... we'll give it a few days before getting excited about it.

I can see a few sets of eyes looking at my from the shadows of the back of my incubator. I have a cabinet incubator, well 2 of them, 1 I'm using as an incubator the other I've got the turner turned off and I'm using that as a hatching. But the chicks keep jumping ship out of the tray and off they go to hide! I've caught 16.. most with this toy alligator grabber toy... they must be terrified when I get them out! Still plenty hatching. It's day 19 on my Ebay Silkie eggs too.. so they are going to join the circus a little later today.

34 chicks in my living room right now... what's the definition of insanity?

Previous hatch was up to Sunday morning - out of 24 eggs 19 hatched, 3 were infertile or died very early, 2 were fully grown but didn't hatch (heard one of them peeping the day before). But of the 19 that hatched, my humidity was too high and 2 didn't pull in the yolk sac. One severely.... it had already ruptured before I found it.. pts immediately. The other had the yolk sac hanging out a good inch, and it was still soft when I found it. I pushed it back in between peeps with my finger and put a finger over the naval to keep it in for an hour or more. It was worth it... the naval shut with the sac on the inside, no damage, can't tell it apart from the others now.. 4 days and counting.
