That is perfect..have done this many a time...give it some time to absorb the rest of the blood, and yolk. I would wait for at least 6 hrs. before chipping a bit more away..to the side of the holes..see if there is blood, if there is a lot..stop...wait a few more hrs. go back, and so forth..you are doing great!

there ya go! I definately had a couple that need intervention. They were in a completely different position than the other ones...they were all deformed when they finally came out of the shell from being in such a weird position. They did not have the strength to push against the shell I don't think. I made enough room over a course of many hours and they were finally able to slide their bumms out. Congrats and good luck with the rest.

Yup, live and learn. The whole process is amazing and I feel blessed to be able to participate so intimately in the life of these little ones.

THe complexities always just astound me. When I was pregnant and you realize every little millionth thing that has to happen at the exact same time..... now, with hatching these it is kind of the same thing...it hits you how incredibly complex it is and the nuances that have to happen. It also makes me feel that as moms, we MUST be better at listening to our internal voices because what mother hens and mother ducks clearly know about hatching and rearing chicks is so incredible and, I think, that we have lost that innate ability to just completely trust ourselves as mothers/parents sometimes because everyone else seems to "know" so much more...we forget to just trust our gut. Anyway, I DIGRESS!

Congrats to all who are having a great hatch and my heart goes out to those that have not....
