I know exactly how you feel. I went ahead and bought one of those Brinsea Ovascopes to candle with and I just can't wait to use it. I did use it to look at all my eggs when they arrived.
I was thinking of pulling an egg out today to look, but it's only been 2 days, not like I am going to see much of anything.

I might do it anyway! What the heck. Live wild.....

Hey, once in a while, on the second day, that is if it is the 2nd day after you set them, you can see a round dark circle in the yolk. You know you have a fertile one.

When candling I say to myself: the hen who is sitting on eggs can get off the nest for up to 30 minutes or more per day and the eggs do fine, so, it won't hurt anything to take a peek right?
But in the end... I think it's just encouraging the addiction

We've looked at 10 so far, 8 are

and 2 are

All of mine are shipped eggs, when I first got them I candled them to see if I could tell anything. Most of the shells look kinda speckled like some of the Calcium has been eaten away and several had detached air cells and looked like the yolks were messed up. I was not thinking we would be getting many chicks. There's still a long way to go but we're all feeling so much happier now!

So, to those of you waiting to candle... I say go for it! if you're more than 3 days in you could see something on some of your eggs and it is such a rush. But, you didn't hear it from me...

Oh really.... I couldn't hold myself and took a look yesterday I did saw some dark circles but because the eggs are a bit darker I couldn't see that well. I was thinking of buying an ovascope aswell hmmm maybe I will..

So I looked at all the eggs, and I will say I didn't think the green eggs or even our little medium colored brown egg would be that hard to see though. So all looks good on the standard chickens, but the banty eggs are throw outs, little red rings in three of them 3 nothings and one with development. Those are the ones Kevin was really hoping for too!

Oh and I am loving Leghorn eggs! All for the most part look GREAT. And What a big easy egg to candle! I have to say its my favorite right now. They are so easy that I even was able to show two of my students and take pictures for the rest of them!

Man, I know what you mean about the green eggs! I didn't think they'd be hard to see into but yikes! We held our light up to one of them and it is sooo dark!
Oh, can you post a pic or two?

But, you cold wait a few days before throwing eggs out. Sometimes it is just hard to see development at such an early stage.

Here is an update on mine :I just candled my 15 eggs. In 8 of them I see development (veins and heart) I am not using the best flashlight but am still happy with what I saw. These are shipped eggs that had 3 broken upon arrival. These were put in the bator on Wednesday the 16Th at 8:00 pm eastern time

I didn't throw them out yet, but I will get a picture post asap of those eggs! I did move the 3 eggs with the red rings together and where I can find them if needed.

Here are three of the Leghorn eggs, I am a newbie, but to me the look to have development
