I will say in person they have more veins, but my camera sucks on dark and close up pictures! I wish I could take pictures of our game hens eggs, I am so excited about that egg!

great pics mrs ford. i ordered a candler but it hasn't come yet. i may have to try a flashlight too. i have several green, blue, and dark brown eggs. i doubt i will see much in those

I am using a cheapie LED Flashlight, and it worked pretty good for me. The green eggs were dark, but could see some outlines of veins, but our little brown egg was hard as to look though, but again little outlines of veins!

thanks for the pics.
We are using an LED flashlight too. I like it 'cause it doesn't heat the eggs up at all and we can see enough to get a good idea of what is going on.
The Brinsea ovascope looks awesome though. I wish I could justify buying one of those.

I'd love to see pics of how it works if anyone who has one can upload it...

It is diffcult to see into dark eggs, even with a candler you might have trouble. You'll need a very bright light. It should get easier later on but I've heard of folks with dark maran eggs who just couldn't see anything and had to wait until hatch.

So you have mystery eggs for a while, do you have any lighter eggs? Hang in there

I have talked to people that don't candle at all. I was leaning toward this approach. My thinking was, since we are turning by hand, it should be easy to smell any eggs that are starting to stink and get rid of them. I was thinking that until Mrs Delmar walked up to me with an LED light and asked "Sooooo, when we candle the eggs, what are we looking for?" So I guess it turns out we are going to candle the eggs. I told her I wanted to wait until day 10 but perhaps we can look at a few of the light brown and blue ones earlier. My RIR eggs are pretty dark so I'm not all that convinced we will see anything when we look at them.

well if mrs delmar says candle then you candle.

sue chick, i have some that are lighter brown but didn't see anything in them either. i really don't know what i'm looking for except what i've seen in the pics on here.
