We don't have a generator exactly, but we do have a power inverter that plugs into the cigarette lighter of the car. If I needed to I could pull the car up to the window and power my incubator and my cpap machine.

Hey.....I have one of those too!!! Will be gathering things up!! I also have a down jacket in there and will wrap up the bator if I need to!

I have eggs due on the 6th and 7th of April.

Me too! Can't wait to see your pics!!

My chicken went broody the day before I placed my eggs in my incubator, so I took some of the fertilized eggs I had ordered and gave her three to add to the 2 she was sitting on. I candled all the eggs last night and she is doing much better than my incubator. I have about 50 eggs in 2 bators and saw definite movement in 2 and veins in about 70%. Out of the five she's hatching, I saw movement in 3 and veins in the other 2. She's doing great!

Then, surprisingly, she laid another egg today. My DH said he heard her sing her song so she must have laid an egg. I thought no way - she's been broody for over a week. But, sure enough, she's sitting on 6 now! What a talented little lady!

yay for broodies
That's cool, I thought they couldn't lay eggs when they were brooding. Chickens always surprise me!

That last egg probably won't make it to hatch under her though. Once her babies hatch she'll leave the nest to take care of them, the remaining egg will be abandoned. Maybe you could grab it before she leaves the nest and pop it in the incubator.

That's a great idea. I'll do that. I've gone a little egg crazy and have order several dozen more eggs (and will likely need incubator #3). I'll put it in with those.

I didn't know they would lay eggs when broody either. She's a little silkie and from what I hear they are really seriously broody, so that surprised me even more! I went to a similar on developing show chickens today where one of the presenters said "yes, silkies are amazingly broody - they could hatch golf ball.)
