If it's healed over, I'd just let it be and watch it.

So I got home from work and my humidity was down to 48% I switched out the water for hot water and it is back up to 64%. I'm going to redesign a few things before my next hatch. In the mean time I read on another thread that somebody else who was having humidity problems, took a spray bottle and misted the eggs to help soften the shell. What do you think of this approach?

I have my first pip ever!!!!!!! Another egg is rocking like crazy too. I am super excited now. Its going to be

Sorry, that won't soften the shell. Shells that have been "slow baked" for 3 weeks are quite brittle anyway, usually. I wouldn't mist chicken eggs. Humidity can vary lots and still give you a good hatch. The first 18 days, I let mine go down to about 30% before adding water, never over 50%, then I raise it to 65-70, but don't panic if it goes back down to 60%. Once during this incubation, it was down to 20% in one bator and probably had little effect since it wasn't there very long.

Gotta love those silkie mommas. This one is still a pullet. The youngest of these babies hatched this morning and the oldest yesterday at a little after 7 am. I've given up on 2 of the eggs. Just opened one up and is perfectly formed but dead. Left the chirping one under the momma and if she deserts it I'll take over. As young as they are she has already had them out teaching them to eat and drink (wade in shallow water).

The nest box is a dollar store tub with an oval cut out. The chickens seem to like them just fine.

Now have six D'Uccles on just starting to pip. Don't think the last one will hatch. My Marans 2 are zipping, two pipping and I think is a quitter.

The D'Uccles are the best hatching rate I've had on shipped eggs. I think I'm just getting better at hatching the more I do it. Having fun can't wait for next round.
Congrates and good luck

Am loving seeing all the babies! It made my stomach a little weak....started worrying about if I will do the right thing when the time comes....lol....that is just something else to worry about!!!

Stuck the sensor to the hydrometer into the plug hole today and my humidity is running right on and the temp too. That's a good thing.

Just sat down and looked at the dates once again and realized that Saturday night is LOCKDOWN!!! I am getting excited now. Set the eggs around 9pm on the 22.....so have counted from the 23rd at 9pm for day one......so if I am right lockdown is Saturday the 9th....someone correct me before I screw up!!

More baby pictures as you can post them please!!
