how long has it been pipped? do you hear chirping, or peeping from the pipped egg? if so i'd definitely leave it be for now.

how many other eggs do you have in your incubator, and are any others pipped? if there are any pipped, or many more to hatch, i'd really try to leave it alone.

how's it going?

i woke up to one chick and three pips but humidity in the mid-fifties, and i'm concerned about shrink wrapping as well

actually after about 28hrs, several trips to a steamy bathroom and an empty hot water heater later...The chick pop the rest of the way out and was runnin around the bator, although it seriously screwed up my other eggs; that were hatching so peacfully, because it was dragging around a shell on its butt! it finally came off. Needless to say i think my other pips hatched alot quicker due to the lack of breaks allowed due to my troublesome aunry chick!

Now i need to pick a good name for him! He is something else! and he had Huge feet!!! (will upload his photo soon!)

Hi snazz,

Sometimes there is a wetness in the egg that I have been wondering about. Anyone know what in the heck that is? And yes, I've had mine not make it because of drowning.
I would say if it is blowing bubbles..I would open the place a bit bigger where it has pipped. Raise your humidity..last night I hurried and put in a real wet dish cloth...clean of course, then when I saw the humidity up, snatched the egg out and pipped it more. It had been pipped since early in the morning, and it was then almost 6. I just don't want to take any chances..I've wanted these so bad all along. Only one of my Blue/lemon Cochins made it to lock down, and this one was it...it's out all the way this morning..and doing great! Whew!

Hi bigtime...
I just had one of my little frizzles do that really bad..it sat on it's butt, and had it's little legs out there just a paddling away. My DH and I called it drummer..because it sounded like she was pounding away on the floor. It took some time, but the legs strengthened. They do scoot a lot on their bellies for a while..but they get stronger. One of my RIR's is still scooting, and it hatched yesterday. Getting up more and more though.
Hey, nice hatch! And to think you did this with your own home made bator. Way to go. Your kids are going to love these babies!
Waiting for pics!

Well the one that was blowing bubbles died. I think it didn't hit the air sack right. I did a stealth removal. The stuff was very hard and sticky so I think even if I had gotten it out sooner it had prob inhaled some of the gook n wouldn't have made it anyway. Sad but the lone hatched chickie is so cute it is keeping me smiling. I have another pip now too. Hope everyone else is doin ok. Chev how's your baby?

Thank you Cynthia

We were watching Forest Gump one day and realized that this is how our farm was working too. Between 6 horses and god knows how many chickens life is never boring. How is your hatch going?
