Sounds like an excellent first hatch!! My first hatch was 30% and there were at least a dozen beautifully formed chicks that were DIS (dead in shell)

My second hatch was 10%.

This one was was up to 67%!

You should be very pleased.

i woke up this am to find a dead baby in the brooder. it was one of the ones put in most recently. not sure what happened. they all looked great last night. i'm pretty sure he was one that hatched on his own too. i guess this is just part of havin chickies.i still have 3 more in the bator. not sure about one tho. i'm having to help him and i think he may be too weak. some of the later ones seem too big to get out on their own. i think next time i'm going to have two brooders. one for just hatched and then a big kid brooder so the newest babies can get their strength up before having to deal with the ones that hatched a couple days earlier. i may even do that this am to let the 3 in bator catch up. any news skillswife? chevgirl so glad to hear about hugo. delmar how is your little one with the feet probs?

Her second pair of boots is working much better than the first. but when I got her out of the brooder she had a big feather stuck to each. Should have cleaned that tub out better, I guess. It was pretty cute though!

We are going to do the float test when we get home from church today. My guess is the bator will be empty and cleaned out by evening. I have some ideas how to change the air flow and get the temp and humidity under control, so I am looking forward to getting going with another batch. I got five eggs saved from yesterday!

I did a float test with mine last nite. All but one did nothing. The one that moved I tried to help hatch but didn't make it. Guess I should have left it alone. Good luck with yours
