Hey Melissa...good to know! and also I will be getting some CJ silkies to hatch for Dec (I like hatching some for Christmas Eve)... we have a lot of the same birds from the same breeders...looking forward to seeing what you hatch from CJ's eggs...good luck when are yours due?

I have a batch from CJ as well, mine are due on the 10th! We have alot of people on here with cj eggs, lol. Hopefully all will have good turn outs! Thats a cool idea having a batch to hatch on Christmas eve, I might give that a shot!

Oh the gloves is a great idea, I never thought about that. I always wash my hands but gloves would be more sterile, thanks for the idea!

And hopefully

your eggs will be fine!!

Hope your eggs are okay! I start by scraping the bottoms of my fingernails with a toothpick, then I scrub my hands with antibacterial soap under hot water, and then I put hand sanitizer on, and then if I am still worried for whatever reason I wet down my paper towel with my brinsea incubator/egg cleaner solution and wipe eggs or parts of the incubator I touch.... My hands are actually starting to crack from the constant scrubbing and abuse that I've been putting them through but I don't even want to put lotion on them for fear it will make them more oily. I think I might be overdoing it. Note to self - get disposable gloves. lol!

In other news, yesterday was day seven on my Sizzle eggs, 6 of them are looking great! One was clear so I pulled it. So far, so good!

Also my Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco is scheduled to arrive today, and expected delivery on my Splash Marans eggs is tomorrow!! Yay!!

I didn't even know that it was possible to contaminate your eggs like this????? this is good to know...i didn't even think about washing my hands before touching the eggs...what about eggs that have dirt or poop on them....do you guys still set these?

And yes I see after reading through this thread that a few people have CJ's eggs hatching soon...it will be very exciting to see what you all hatch...

This will be my third Christmas Eve hatch...my last two went very well (almost 100%) and they are all big healthy birds...it is fun because I am on holidays from Dec. 20 -Jan. 3 each year and get to enjoy my babies. It is easy to get the chicks out and sit on the sofa with them when the house is all warm during winter.

Yea I still set them if they already have dirt on them, I have read a lot of different opinions on here, some people say they scrape off some of the dirt, some say don't. I mean if you think about it hens hatch eggs without us cleaning them up all the time, but we don't usually touch them, that's why washing your hands really good to get rid of any bacteria or wearing disposable gloves I think it a good idea. Just my opinion!

On the 4th of Nov. They were going strong and now blood rings and dead embryos!!! It had to be my hands! Most of the cuts are on my finger tips and even though I scrubbed them really good that wire is just plain mean

i put in another order with CJ for October 31. I figured they would be a little further along for Christmas and not so young. Young animals have such a hard time at Christmas ! It's easier down here because our weather is so wonderfully mild in the winter!!!

If they are very heavily soiled I wouldn't but if they are just a little dirty I just remove what I can and then set them. They seem to do just as well as the other eggs that I've set so far.

We are using the same bator we did the first time, it's a LG, I want to upgrade so bad but can't seem to save up the money yet.

We had a 50% hatch rate with it first go around though, it wasn't shipped eggs like these are though so I am just hoping for the best!
