Anyone HATCHING?!?!? Newbie's and addicts WELCOME!!!! Hatch Calendar page 1!!!!

Yes we have all made mistakes, as long as you learn from it though, no harm done, I know that doesn't make you feel any better though, so sorry!

Cali Chick, so happy you got your own bator, what kind did you go with?

Silkymom, I decided to get a circulated air Hova Bator with egg turners. I'm using a still air HB now and it holds temps/humidity really well. I thought about getting the Genesis with preset temps and digital readings, etc. but since I'm always home I think the CircAir HovaBator is just fine for me at the best price. I'm actually scared to use the egg turners because I like having that control and "closeness" with the eggs. I'm also scared I'll overheat the top of the eggs -at least in the still air! I'll have to research the CircAir bators and correct temps before using it this weekend.

BTW-I made the decision to buy the semi-local show quailty silkie eggs. The lady has 3 pens of SQ blue/black/splash pens. I would be foolish NOT to invest in that kind of quality!

I just went out and checked on my silkie who's been sitting on some Black Copper Maran eggs I was given. They were washed and refridgerated and we were unsure they would even hatch. It was more to keep momma silkie happy. Well, she never ceases to amaze me. We're on day 21 and I went out to check on her after work... I have 3 pips!!! WOW!!

Maybe I'll be back shortly with chick pictures!

It's not easy! I have a good camera, to start with. I have a helper hold a flashlight on the egg from outside the incubator. You have to aim it at an oblique angle so it doesn't just shine glare right back at the camera. And then you have to have a really steady hand. And you still end up with a mediocre photo because the plastic of the incubator cover messes with the focus. Heh! But that's how I got mine:

Awesom!!! Are you going to set them for the Easter hatch?

Yep, I sure am.

Don't tell anyone, but I'm setting my eggs at midnight this Friday. That's about 12 hours early, but my hatches have been a day or two late anyway. (We will have family visiting from out of state on Saturday and we won't be home all day.)

Guess what? I candled my 5 Easter Egger eggs and ALL 5 are developing!

They had nice big, red "spiders" floating around inside. It will be wonderful having a new incubator -of my own. And, I'll be able to hatch these EE chicks in the still air Hova Bator insted of the Brower now!

Here is a picture of one of the EE embryos on Day 4:

Oh, that is wonderful and so beautiful seeing that little pip. I'll keep my fingers crossed for those little chicks to hatch out strong and quick.

ah, that's it, the plastic is messing it up..it'll focus and get real good and then go fuzzy..ugh..it's hard to see the crack anyway..there is no pip, just a crack..crazy chick
