I moved my broody last night and she was NOT happy this morning. She was pacing and fussing at the door. I had to block the door to the nest box and put her back in it. They are due today and tomorrow. I think since she can't get out of the box she will be fine now

the thief had 4 extra eggs under her!!

We are going to be hatching next week

Got 7 splash cochin bantams under a silkie hen. Had them in the incubator up until yesterday when I decided to put them under a broody for the hatch since finally got a broody again. Now I have duck eggs in my bator and then I'll brake for a chance to tweek my thermostat in my bator and start up a test hatch with duck eggs.

Using a homemade cooler bator with hot water heater thermostat that just found out needs holes drilled into it to make it more temp sensitive.

fingers crossed it makes it better.

We candled our eggs tonight

.Out of eleven I think there are 8 developing. There might be more but I know 1 is bad and 2 I'm unsure about. They are 8 days old but 9 of them are shipped eggs and 2 of them were put in the day or two days before them and are eggs I got out of the coop. When I candled the shipped eggs it looked like a early developing egg not a 8 day old egg. There was something moving in there though,there were no veins(that I could tell) but it looked like a early developing egg that's just like a little blob sorta(I don't have the best flashlight so I couldn't see very clearly). I've seen pictures of a few day old developing egg and it looks just like that. My 2 eggs I put in there from our coop already have veining and everything. Are they just late developing or is there something wrong?

I candled mine today.. out of the 24 mutt eggs two look like they might not be fertile .. they were the last two I put in the bator from a couple of pullets .. their first eggs so I don't know if Jack got around to doing his "roosterly duty" with them yet... or if being the first pullet eggs they just weren't fertile at all..

out of the Marans I did see some veins and a couple of chicks starting to develop.. then my light died

so I guess they are going to be a "wait and see" sort of thing
since they were shipped I'm happy that I did see some life in the first few I candled.. so I suppose I can't fuss too much.. just hate it that the darn light decided to go wonky on me (may have to send it back to Brinsea since they were new batteries and the light just went out.. it comes back on briefly if I tap it on my hand.. so I know it's not the bulb)

plus i have 6 KC duck eggs
