I do have a question about the yolk sack. There was a slimy thing stuck to the thermometer that is now dried and yellow. Is this a yolk sack and can a chick survive it it looses it?

It's just a little birth goo from the membrane. If your chicklets tummies aren't open and bleeding anywhere they should be fine! Don't throw the eggs away without opening them first. I take a small pair of bathroom scissors and poke a small whole in the fat end of the egg and use a flashlight to look for movement. If there is movement just put them back into the incubator!

My stupid dog got into my hen house and ate around 10 of my hatching eggs out of 13

I now only have 4 left that will be a staggered hatch!

for a better hatch!! My first attempt with shipped eggs I had none hatch either, it's just always a gamble when they are shipped. Hopefully having 2 batches from different places will make a difference too!

Thanks! There are 27 silkie eggs total. The color possibilities are BBS,white,buff,lavender,partridge,blue partridge,and cuckoo.
