25 eggs went into lockdown last night

24 from the original set and 1 from my broody. She kicked it out a few days ago. It had a crack in it which I repaired with candle wax and put it in the incubator. Not sure if it will do anything but I had to try. Just a few minutes ago she kicked a Serama egg out

, so I quickly slid the incubator door a crack and put it in too. Again, had to try. Last night I opened 1 quitter, maybe died 10 days ago...was nothing but a grey blob. Was proud of myself for even being able to open it and look. I'm pretty squeamish so that stuff is hard for me.

Already, most of the eggs are rocking so I'm getting that hatching excitement! I have a "which egg will hatch first" lottery with my family - they get money if they pick the correct egg, lol. This time, they got to pick 4 eggs for a chance to win $20 if their picks hatch first. Keeps them interested, lol. On my Facebook, I have a lottery with my friends. Their correct choice allows them to pick the name of the chick.

Waiting for that first pip now

Zoo Mummy: You asked about lockdown for seramas a day early! Seramas are supposedly a nineteen day hatch period, but I have had many that have gone to day 21 to hatch. They are so unpredictable and so sensitive, I do however lock them down on day seventeen rather than eighteen. I wish you the very best in your hatch. I am still waiting as of this minute I have not pip's or hatches. Like you I am nervous,,,LOL. Keep us posted and I will do the same. I'm not sure I'll ever get to where I am not nervous. I'm in my mid seventies and still like a little kid. What can I say, I love the baby chicks and especially the seramas. I also enjoy the black coppers. Beautiful eggs. I hope you had a happy new year everyone. Paraclete 2

Thank you for posting and good luck to you too!!!! I don't think I will ever get over the excitement/nervousness either. I just love chickens. This is only the start of my 3rd year having them (I was scared to death of them for most of my life, lol) and I am totally in love with them. I am pretty sure, God willing, that I will have them my entire life. Thanks for the info about the Seramas. I thought about putting them in lockdown a day early, but didn't. I hope they will make it but I know they are touchy little things too. I was devastated when I saw my broody kick one of her Seramas out from under her! She has another one in there so maybe...She is due on January 6th. My first broody hatch too so I'm even more nervous!

Yes, please keep us posted! It's nice knowing you are not alone

Cluckin'Along :

As far as I can tell I have 1 little peeper so far! My Broody is stuck like glue to the nest, so I'm having trouble counting..

Congrats! I haven't heard anything from under my broody due Wednesday, but I hear cheeping from inside the eggs in the incubator
